As portable devices have become more prevalent, power banks have become the must have for anyone who spends any time away from an electrical outlet. Typically power banks offer a microUSB or a USB Type-C port for charging and while many devices have now adopted microUSB or USB-C, many devices still require AC power, which is a problem if your power bank only supports USB charging.
One innovative company looking to make power banks a bit more versatile is Jackery, which recently launched an Indiegogo campaign on their new PowerBar power bank. Over the past month, Jackery was kind enough to let us test one of the early units, so let’s take a [...]
Not too long ago, we reviewed the HyperX Alloy FPS, an excellent mechanical gaming keyboard for those looking for simple, portable, heavy duty gaming keyboard for both at home and on the go. Unlike many of today’s gaming keyboards, HyperX bucked the trend by going with a more back to basics design, which ultimately proved to be a winner.
Today, we’ll be reviewing a similar mechanical keyboard, this time from Nixeus, a company most well known for its inexpensive yet well equipped monitors. Nixeus’s offering, the Nixeus Moda Pro, is designed for a more general user those looking for a simple, durable mechanical keyboard that not only [...]
Several weeks ago, we had the opportunity to review the Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC PRO which we found to be an excellent Wi-Fi access point solution for anyone looking for an easy way to significantly improve their Wi-Fi coverage, performance, and reliability in the home, office, or commercial deployment.
Of course, the UniFi AP AC PRO isn’t the fastest access point Ubiquiti makes and for those who want the absolute maximum performance, Ubiquiti also offers the UniFi AP AC HD, Ubiquiti’s flagship UniFi access point sporting an even faster, newer, beefier wireless chipset paired with an even more powerful antenna array.
Given that [...]
Back at CES earlier this year, one of Linksys’s biggest announcements was their new Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System which is Linksys’s first entry into the Mesh Wi-Fi market.
As we recently got our hands on a test unit, today we’ll be reviewing Linksys Velop to see if it’s actually lives up to its claims.
For our review, Linksys provided us with the Velop 3-Node Mesh Wi-Fi System. The Linksys Velop will also come in a one node or two node pack, but additional single nodes can always be added to the system to improve Wi-Fi coverage in the home.Specifications Manufacturer Linksys Model Velop Wi-Fi Bands IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ac [...]
Synology is a company well known for their excellent, easy to use NAS systems, and several years ago they decided to enter the router market with the Synology Router RT1900ac which combined their expertise in producing quality, intuitive, easy to use operating systems with a high performance router solution. While we didn’t get a chance to review the RT1900ac at the time, it was very well received by customers and press, which is why when Synology announced the Router RT2600ac, we absolutely had to check it out.Specifications Manufacturer Synology Model RT2600ac Processor Qualcomm IPQ 8065 Dual Core 1.7GHz Memory 512MB [...]
While Apple’s decision to go exclusive on USB-C ports with their new MacBook Pros may have been due to a desire to deliver the most advanced laptop with the most courageous interfaces possible, it doesn’t change the fact that customers of the new laptop will need to purchase a slew of new adapters in order to use most of their current external devices. Given that Apple’s USB-C adapters can range anywhere from $19 to a whopping $79, many customers have expressed quite a bit of dissatisfaction as adapters alone can significantly add to the cost of the already expensive laptop.
In a rare moment that Apple may have realized they went a bit too far on [...]
When Apple launched their new MacBook Pros last week, many were disappointed by the fact that the new systems required a slew of new adapters as the new MacBook Pro now “courageously” only features USB Type-C ports. As most devices currently don’t use USB Type-C, this could require another hundred bucks worth of adapters.
One solution to this issue is OWC’s new 13-Port Thunderbolt 3 Dock which will allow a single USB Type-C port on the MacBook Pro to connect to a variety of devices and connectors. Among the ports included is USB 3.1 (Type-A), S/PDIF, FireWire 800, Gigabit ethernet, Thunderbolt 3, mini-DisplayPort, SD Card Reader, and [...]
As the new base 13″ MacBook Pro without the touch bar has been shipping for several days, benchmarks of the new system has been popping up online and at least when it comes to CPU performance, it looks like it’s not much of an upgrade.
Comparing benchmarks of the new base 13″ MacBook Pro against older 13″ MacBook Pros, we can see that the new base 13″ MacBook Pro scores just 6970 points in GeekBench 4 compared to the early 2015 13″ MacBook Pro which scored between 6497 and 6983 points. As such, CPU performance on the new 13″ MacBook Pro will unfortunately be about the same as last year’s model.
When Apple launched the new MacBook Pro last week with the top end models packing AMD’s Radeon Pro 450, 455 or 460, we were immediately curious as to what kind of performance could be expected from the graphics cards. Since Apple isn’t usually too keen on revealing this type of information, we had to turn to AMD who conveniently revealed all the juicy details for us.
As expected the new Radeon Pro 400 series graphics cards are based on AMD’s Polaris architecture (4th Gen GCN). Starting from the top end, the Radeon Pro 460 packs 16 compute units (1024 stream processors) and provides up to 1.86 TFLOPS of peak performance. The mid-range Radeon Pro [...]
