During CES 2017, Razer reported that several of their precious Project Valerie triple-monitor gaming laptop prototypes were stolen from the show floor. Now we may have some clues as to where it went.
According to a recent screenshot, it appears that the laptop was up for sale at Taobao. According to the ad, the laptop is for sale at a price of CNY 150,000, which translates to around $21,739.76 USD.
No information on whether the seller actually has the laptop or if it’s a hoax, nor were we able to find the ad for ourselves as it’s been taken down at this time. Guess the crooks realized it was a stupid idea to list highly publicized stolen products on [...]
At CES 2017, we got a chance to visit the Razer booth before all their stuff was stolen. Two products are under the spotlight at Razer’s CES booth included Project Ariana and Project Valerie. While both products are considered to be proof of concept, Razer did have the prototypes to show off.
At the very front of the booth is Razer’s biggest eye catcher: a gaming laptop featuring triple 4K displays dubbed project Valerie. This 12lb colossus is Razer’s solution of making a triple monitor setup as compact as possible. In the private press booth, Razer had a demo running Battlefield 1 at practically 12K.
The prototype [...]

While Apple’s decision to go exclusive on USB-C ports with their new MacBook Pros may have been due to a desire to deliver the most advanced laptop with the most courageous interfaces possible, it doesn’t change the fact that customers of the new laptop will need to purchase a slew of new adapters in order to use most of their current external devices. Given that Apple’s USB-C adapters can range anywhere from $19 to a whopping $79, many customers have expressed quite a bit of dissatisfaction as adapters alone can significantly add to the cost of the already expensive laptop.
In a rare moment that Apple may have realized they went a bit too far on [...]
As the new base 13″ MacBook Pro without the touch bar has been shipping for several days, benchmarks of the new system has been popping up online and at least when it comes to CPU performance, it looks like it’s not much of an upgrade.
Comparing benchmarks of the new base 13″ MacBook Pro against older 13″ MacBook Pros, we can see that the new base 13″ MacBook Pro scores just 6970 points in GeekBench 4 compared to the early 2015 13″ MacBook Pro which scored between 6497 and 6983 points. As such, CPU performance on the new 13″ MacBook Pro will unfortunately be about the same as last year’s model.
For those who missed it, Apple recently launched their new MacBook Pros which is the first time they’ve updated it in the past 4 years. Although Apple has updated quite a bit of internal hardware, one complaint with the new system is that the memory onboard is maxed out at just 16GB rather than 32GB or 64GB. Considering the MacBook Pro is designed for professionals in design and creative applications, the decision to max out at just 16GB seems like it would be an issue especially as we inch closer and closer towards the world of high resolution photography and 4K video editing.
As many customers have been curious as to why Apple decided to max out at 16GB of RAM, [...]
Although Apple just launched their new MacBook Pros yesterday, the guys over at OWC already got their hands on the new 13″ base model MacBook Pro and of course they did the obligatory teardown to take a closer look.
Interestingly enough, one thing they discovered is that the SSD inside comes in a proprietary module sitting right underneath the speakers. Given that the SSD is in a module that isn’t completely soldered into the PCB, this means that the SSD can potentially be upgraded. Awesome.
Unfortunately, one look at the module and it’s pretty clear that the design is very proprietary. As such, it’ll likely take some time before [...]
