A slew of images from two upcoming Gigabyte AMD AM4 platform motherboards were recently leaked by Korean website BodNara. These upcoming motherboards will support AMD’s AM4 socket platform which will be the primary platform for AMD’s upcoming Summit Ridge (Zen), Bristol Ridge, Raven Ridge and many future AMD CPUs/APUs.
Like previous AMD platforms, the new AM4 platform will support several different chipsets which are geared towards different market segments. The AMD A320 chipset will be geared towards the entry level while the B350 chipset will be geared towards the mid-range and the X370 chipset will be aimed at the high end. The new chipsets [...]
According to a recent article published by Digitimes, motherboard makers may be facing increased costs due to an issue in AMD’s upcoming motherboard chipset. Citing industry sources, Digitimes claims that the issue stems from a design flaw in the ASMedia USB 3.1 chip included in the chipset, which causes “…USB 3.1 transmission speeds drop dramatically as circuit distance increases”. As such, board makers are forced to add additional retimer, redriver, or additional USB 3.1 chips in order to make USB 3.1 function properly on the upcoming motherboards. ASMedia has denied such allegations citing that their [...]
During our stay at Computex we stopped by the Gigabyte suite and took a look at their motherboards.GA-X99 Designare EX
The Designare series is a class of motherboards aimed at those looking for productivity, which is a very interesting step from Gigabyte. While very similar to their “Gaming” focused boards, this one has a focus on faster storage with dual SATA Express slots and support for U.2 and M.2 storage under the white shroud. It also supports the new Broadwell-E 10 core with a beefy 8+1 phase power design, which we would assume is from International Rectifier. Gigabyte boasts that with this board it won’t take a professional overclocker to get [...]
At this year’s Computex, Colorful a company known for making graphics cards, had a very interesting concept on display. This custom motherboard featuring Intel’s B150 chipset also features an integrated GTX 1070 desktop-class GPU on-board.Colorful Displays B150-Gp104 Motherboard Concept
The motherboard itself does not seem to to comply with any ATX standards, as it features ports on both the front and rear edges of the board. This means that it is likely custom-designed for a console-like barebones PC of sorts. It features an Intel B150 chipset, which is compatible with mainstream desktop Skylake CPUs. As this is a B150 motherboard, it does feature a [...]
MSI revealed two new additions to its premium Carbon series motherboards at CES 2016: the MSI X99A Godlike Carbon and the MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon. These new motherboards are very similar to the original X99A Godlike and Z170A Gaming Pro with the difference being a few aesthetic changes including RGB lighting which should make these boards more stylish.
MSI X99A Godlike Carbon Edition RGB
The MSI X99A Godlike Carbon Edition features a makover compared to the original X99A Godlike edition. MSI has strayed away from its Gaming Series signature red and black color scheme and instead applied a more suave carbon texture. To make up for the [...]
Is there any better way of kicking off a new year than releasing a brand new line of products? BIOSTAR doesn’t seem to think so as they’ve just announced their latest Racing Series of gaming oriented motherboards.
The new BIOSTAR Z170GT7, B150GT5, and H170GT3 all feature a slick checkered racing design on top of an I/O armor, a growingly popular design choice that provides protection from dust. Moreover, the motherboards are also rocking Biostar’s vivid LED DJ technology and 5050 headers, which allows users to not only personalize onboard lighting effects to match their own build theme but also control any additional LED strips. Other [...]

MSI recently unveiled the world’s first USB 3.1 certified motherboards at CES 2015 with the MSI X99A Gaming 9 ACK and the Z97A Gaming 6. The USB 3.1 standard doubles USB transfer bandwidth to 10Gbps from current generation USB 3.0’s 5Gbps.
The first board on display is MSI’s X99A Gaming 9 ACK, which will be a flagship motherboard in MSI’s X99 gaming motherboards lineup. The upcoming motherboard includes several USB 3.1 ports although it’ll be outfitted with the more common Type-A connector rather than the new Type-C reversible connector. MSI demonstrated the USB 3.1 ports to be capable of over 650MB/s [...]
According to a recent article by Heise.de, Intel along with their motherboard partners recently pulled RSTe (Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise) version 126.96.36.1996 due to some minor bugs which degrades the functionality of the Intel X99’s C610 chipset.
According to a response to the German publication Heise.de by motherboard giant ASUS, the driver was pulled because it doesn’t support ATA TRIM commands for SSDs in RAID 0 configuration. When Heise.de tried to figure out a work around, ASROCK suggested installing RST 13.1 as a temporary fix. The problem is that RST 13.1 is designed for chipsets on series 8 and 9 platforms, [...]
