CES 2017: Zotac Shows Off Mini PCs, ZBOX Graphics Dock, GTX 1080 Mini

Continuing our coverage of CES 2017, we arrive at Zotac, a company best known for manufacturing NVIDIA graphics cards. While the company did have the full range of GTX 10 series cards on display, including their recently announced GTX 1080 Mini, it was clear that Zotac has another passion: making powerful miniature PCs.

Zotac at CES 2017

Starting with the slew of mini PCs, the first of which was the ZBOX C1549 Nano, a small fanless design which features a 7th generation Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics. This passively-cooled powerhouse is specifically tailored to HTPC usage with its completely silent operation. However, we did see a demo with a [...]

Gigabyte Unveils Compact BRIX Gaming GT Desktop

With CES closing in on us in the next week, early tech announcements have been rapidly circulating online and one of the most interesting is Gigabyte’s BRIX platform with the addition of the GB-GZ1DTi7-1070-NK-GW and the GB-GZ1DTi7-1080-NK-GW.

With a physical footprint of just 276 mm x 384 mm x 128 mm, the Gigabyte BRIX GT series is in competition with the Asus G20 and MSI Vortex, both of which offer stellar performance within a tiny package. In order to combat the cooling limitations of such a high performance build in such a small package, the BRIX GT case features automated vents that balance noise and air flow similar to how the ASUS G20’s [...]

G.SKILL Demos 64GB,128GB DDR4-3333MHz Kits, 32GB DDR4-3333MHz SO-DIMM Kits at IDF 2016

G.SKILL is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of capacity and performance with their memory kits, and at IDF 2016 they showed off some of their fastest and highest capacity memory kits available. At the show, G.SKILL demoed both the 128GB Trident Z DDR4-3333MHz CL14 kit as well as the 64GB Trident Z DDR4-333MHz CL13 kit which represent some of the highest capacity high performance DDR4 kits out on the market today.

While DDR4 3333MHz kits have been available for quite some time, they’ve been generally only available in lower capacities such as 16GB kits. However, thanks to the use of Samsung’s new high performance DDR4 8Gb DDR4 DRAM dies, [...]

CES 2015: MSI GT80 Titan SLI Gaming Laptop Packs Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Switches

MSI has officially taken the crown for introducing the most badass gaming laptop of CES 2015 with their latest flagship gaming laptop, the MSI GT80 Titan.

As its name implies, the MSI GT80 Titan is not only big on size, but the hardware is among the most impressive I’ve ever seen crammed into a laptop chassis – if we can still call it a laptop. Boasting a 18.4″ FHD WideView TN display and weighing in at a whopping 9.9 lbs, the GT80 Titan challenges the very definition of what a laptop is and you don’t have to look very hard to see where all the weight went either. The entire bottom half of the GT80 Titan is reserved for an integrated, [...]

Computex 2014: Allone Cloud Disk Drive 101 RAMDisk Pulls 500,000 IOPS

While storage performance have increased by leaps and bounds with the popularization of SSD technology, volatile memory (DRAM) is still the champ when it comes to raw performance. Unfortunately, with volatile memory being volatile in nature, it’s not a very effective data storage medium if all data gets lost the moment power goes out.

Despite this “small” problem, Allone recently showed off their new Cloud Disk Drive 101 RAMDisk at Computex which aims to allow enterprise users the ability to harness the raw performance of DDR3 DRAM while simultaneously solving the problem of what happens when the lights go out. For those who remember the now [...]

HP ENVY 4 TouchSmart (ENVY 4-1102xx) Ultrabook Review

Great Ultrabook, One Flaw

Years ago when HP/Voodoo first unveiled the ENVY, it was one the best looking ultraportable notebooks on the market. It had a full carbon fiber chassis topped off with a high gloss layer and boasted an ultra thin profile even before Ultrabooks were cool. Now years after that first introduction, HP has fully incorporated the ENVY line into their lineup of notebooks, so let’s see what HP has done with their latest iteration of their finest ultraportables.

Today we’ll be reviewing the HP ENVY 4 TouchSmart (ENVY 4-1102xx) Ultrabook. As suggested by its name, the ENVY 4 TouchSmart will include a touchscreen, which has gotten more and more [...]

Two 2 Bay NAS Review: Synology DiskStation DS213+ and QNAP TS-269 Pro

Two Bay NAS Juggernauts

Nearly a year ago, I reviewed the Synology DiskStation DS212 and at the time I wasn’t very familiar with just how far NAS units have come these days in terms of software and features. Unlike NAS units of the past, NAS units of today are filled to the brim with features and are better considered as servers rather than what their name, Network Attached Storage, implies.

Today, we’ll be reviewing both the Synology DiskStation DS213+ and the QNAP TS-269 Pro 2 bay NAS units. These are small business oriented NAS units, which means they’ll be right at home running web servers and database servers, but they’ll still do the typical [...]

CyberPowerPC Zeus-M2 Ultrabook Review

Sleek Design, Good Performance, Reasonable Price

Ever since Intel’s Ultrabook push in late 2011, Ultrabooks have become quite popular in the notebook market and today we’ll be taking a look at the newest offerings from our friends over at CyberPowerPC. Now, since this is our first Ivy Bridge Ultrabook review, let’s first discuss what an Ultrabook is and what can be called an Ultrabook.

The first Ultrabooks that were released in 2011 prior to the release of Ivy Bridge CPUs had their own set of Ultrabook specifications, but with the release of Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors (sometime during Computex 2012 in June), Intel also released a new set of [...]
