Intel Preparing to Drop 8 Core 16 Threaded Beast on Mainstream Platform

With the holiday season quickly approaching, we have heard numerous rumblings that the 9th gen CPUs hinted at since last year will be arriving soon and thanks to a recent report by Wccftech, we now have a pretty reliable rumor that Intel will launch the new 9th gen CPUs with the Z390 series at the start of October.

According to the article, the Intel Core i9-9900k will be an 8-core and 16-thread CPU while the Intel Core i7-9700K will be an 8 core part without hyper-threading, marking the first time ever on the desktop that Intel is releasing an i7 without hyper-threading. Following this, Intel will then [...]

Intel Adds Core i7-8809G with AMD RX Vega Graphics to Lineup

Several weeks ago, Intel and rival AMD made headlines when the two companies announced that Intel would begin using AMD Vega graphics in some of its mobile CPUs. It appears that the first SKU is finally rolling off the production line with the model name Core i7-8809G.

The Core i7-8809G carries a 4 core, 8 thread CPU. When Intel teased this chip in November 2017, it did so under the moniker “Kaby Lake G”, which suggests that it’ll likely feature Kaby Lake architecture with some tweaks rather than the new Coffee Lake architecture that’s rolling out on some of the newer 8th Generation Core Processors.

The graphics die is the center of discussion of [...]

Mainstream Intel 8-Core/16-Thread CPUs Rumored for 2018

Several weeks ago, an Intel presentation slide was leaked detailing Intel’s upcoming chipset roadmap. The roadmap revealed a previously unknown Z390 chipset, which is a consumer enthusiast chipset coming in the 2H2018.

At the time, little additional details of the upcoming chipset was revealed however, according to a recent forum post on Notebook Review by a representative for system integrator, Eurocom, it appears that the Z390 chipset will support 8-core/16-thread CPUs that Intel may be releasing to accompany the new chipset. If this rumor is accurate, this will be the first time Intel’s mainstream platform will have 8-core/16-thread [...]

Intel Discontinues Skylake Processors

With Coffee Lake on the horizon and Kaby Lake released last year, a new article from Computerbase.de reveals that Intel is discontinuing its 6th Generation Core processor family, codename Skylake.

According to the article, Skylake production has ceased however, processors will continue to be available to be ordered until March 2018 with the final shipments available until September 2018. Next up is likely to be Kaby Lake although no information is available as to when it will be discontinued. That said, once Coffee Lake is released and the six-core performance CPUs hit the market, there will be little incentive for consumers to continue investing in older generation [...]

Intel’s Upcoming Coffee Lake CPUs to Feature 6-Cores, 12-Threads to Counter AMD Ryzen

Ahhh. Competition is such a sweet, sweet thing. As AMD has finally “Ryzen” from the ashes as a competent competitor in the CPU arena, Intel is now scrambling to find a way to answer back. Intel’s first offensive was the launch of the new Core i9 series and the revamp of the HEDT platform. According to a new article from French tech publication, CanardPC, it looks like the next offensive is rebooting the mainstream platform with several new 6-core/12-thread processors for the LGA 1151 socket as well as rebooting mobile CPUs with even more cores than ever before.

The upcoming processors will be based on Intel’s 8th Generation Coffee Lake [...]
