At AMD’s recent Financial Analyst Day 2017, AMD revealed quite a bit of their roadmap for 2017 and beyond.
According to the roadmap, AMD has four new processor lines launching between now and 1H2018. This includes the Ryzen 3 desktop CPU, the Ryzen Mobile CPUs, the Ryzen PRO CPU, and the Mobile Ryzen Pro CPU. While we’re relatively familiar with the upcoming Ryzen 3 lineup, AMD had been fairly quiet about the Ryzen Mobile and the Ryzen Pro/Mobile Pro lineups until now.
The Ryzen Mobile CPUs/APUs are expected to launch in the 2H2017 in various systems including 2-in-1, ultraportable, and gaming systems. According to AMD CTO Mark [...]
AMD’s latest earnings call was a mixed bag as revenues declined over 3Q2016 and are expected to continue to decline heading into 1Q2017. However, despite the quarterly setbacks, AMD had a positive 2016 overall with increased revenues and lower debt over the previous year.
What’s even more exciting for AMD however, is the amount of high profile product launches coming this year. During AMD’s earnings call, AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that Ryzen will launch with “…widespread system and channel availability expected on day one” in early March. This confirms a previous leak that AMD will launch Ryzen during or before GDC. This is [...]
Today Futuremark is finally making available their all-new DirectX 12 benchmarking test, dubbed Time Spy. The test, which showcases past 3DMark benchmarks, including the ever so popular Firestrike test, includes a number of key features of DirectX 12 in order to test modern GPUs.
3DMark Time Spy DirectX 12 Benchmark
Here’s what Futuremark has to say about the Time Spy demo.
Developed with input from AMD, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and the other members of our Benchmark Development Program, 3DMark Time Spy is one of the first DirectX 12 apps to be built “the right way” from the ground up to fully realize the performance gains [...]
Polaris and Bristol Ridge isn’t the only things making thunder at AMD’s press event today. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, also showed off the first sample of the upcoming Zen CPU in the flesh.
Lisa didn’t delve too much into its specifications. She only mentioned that samples are arriving in the labs and that she’s confident in Zen’s capabilities from the results she’s seen. The new Zen architecture will be built around the new 14nm finFETs.
AMD will first focus on bringing Zen to the consumer desktop market, followed by servers and APUs. The flagship model of Zen, Summit Ridge, will have 8 cores/16 threads, [...]
AMD has just unveiled its “Bristol Ridge” and “Stoney Ridge” APU. As the last APUs that will be based on the 28nm node, Bristol Ridge is looking to set up the ground work for AMD’s future collaboration with OEMs and developers.
Developed using AMD’s “Excavator” cores, both Bristol Ridge and Stony Ridge focuses on improving performance in the mobile segment. Bristol Ridge consists of 35W and 15W versions of AMD FX, A12, and A10 processors while Stoney Ridge comes only in 15W versions of the A9, A6 and E2 processors.
According to AMD’s internal testing, the AMD FX-9800P outperformed the Intel Core [...]
Today, AMD announced the AMD A10-7890K APU and the AMD Athlon X4 880K APU which are essentially higher clocked versions of the AMD A10-7870K APU and the AMD Athlon X4 860K CPU respectively.
The AMD A10-7890K APU includes the same amount of CPU cores, GPU cores, and GPU frequency as the AMD A10-7870K except it now comes with a slightly higher 4.1GHz stock/4.3GHz turbo frequency on the CPU. Similarly, the AMD Athlon A4 880K comes clocked at 4.0GHz stock and 4.2GHz turbo.
AMD is also bundling new coolers with the new APU/CPU announcements. Both the AMD A10-7870K and AMD Athlon 880K will receive the new ‘Near-silent’ 125W thermal solution. The new [...]
GLOBALFOUNDRIES announced silicon success on upcoming AMD products using its 14nm FinFET process technology. According to GLOBALFOUNDRIES, this achievement has led to the planned integration of its 14nm FinFETS into multiple upcoming AMD products.
This is good news for AMD. We’ve heard rumours that AMD’s upcoming “Zen” architecture, planned for Q4 2016 release, would be delayed due to poor 14nm FinFET yields. While GLOBALFOUNDRIES did not disclose which product was used for testing, this news at least may instil confidence in AMD’s recent statement that the development and production of Zen is on track.
Along with its Zen CPUs, [...]
