What’s a Quadro? FirePro?

You’ve inevitably come across workstation cards such as Nvidia Quadro or AMD FirePro in your hunt for your next graphics card update. Their enormous price tags not only send shivers down your spine but also raise curiosity as to what makes them so damn expensive.

Today we’re going to answer that question.

Before diving in, let’s take a look at some of the newest professional and consumer cards graphics cards Nvidia has to offer. For the sake of comparison, I’ve chosen the Nvidia Quadro P5000 and the GeForce GTX 1080 which are most comparable in specifications except the Quadro is designed for the [...]

Nvidia GTX 980 Pictured, Shows Improved Design

Immediately following the recently leaked images of Nvdia’s GTX970, we finally have a good look at the upcoming flagship card from the green corner courtesy of Videocardz.com.

At a glance, the cooling solution doesn’t look to have changed on the exterior. It looks to feature the same blower cooler Nvidia implemented on the reference GTX 780 and 780 Ti. But a detailed look reveals some minor design changes. Considering how the cooler is designed to handle a TDP 250W, the GTX 980 should run quieter since its TDP is rumoured to be around 180W.

Nvidia has also opted to migrate the beautiful backplate on the Titan Z over to [...]

Best High End Gaming PC Build Under $2,000 [November 2013]

Build Your Own Next Generation High End Gaming PC!

Over the past couple years, the very high end gaming PC segment has really been neglected. Computer hardware had so far surpassed what games required that most users with modern sub-$1,000 gaming systems would easily be able to run the latest games at maximum resolutions. Best High End Gaming Build [January 2012]

Someone asked me for help with a very high end gaming build, but something that doesn’t go overboard on price so I decided to put something together that would fit around $2,000 and check out what I came up with!

Budget: $2,000 – $2,200

CPU – Intel Core i7 2600K

While the X79 platform and its 3930K is currently available on the market, most games simply don’t require that much processing power and are more likely to be limited by your graphics capability rather than your processing capability. Normally I’d recommend the i5 2500K, but with a larger budget, we can afford to get the i7 2600K for additional future [...]
