Earlier this month, we put together a $1,200 mid-range custom gaming PC build which is an excellent gaming PC at a reasonable budget that will play games at 1080p or 1440p resolutions at medium to high quality.
As we were quite impressed with what could be built with the budget, we decided to put together a sister build as well focusing more on a build for workstation activities such as photo editing, video editing, 3D modeling, video encoding, etc., but also with the capability of playing games at 1080p and 1440p on the side as well. For this build we decided to set ourselves at a $1,500 budget to create the best gaming workstation that’s not only [...]
One of the most popular builds on our site is the gaming workstation, a hybrid build that’s both great at games yet also is able to pull double duty for workstation activities such as video editing, photoshopping, and even 3D modeling. This makes sense as computers are so versatile that it only makes sense to have a single PC that’s capable of not only playing games, but for doing work as well.
Our budget this month is $1,500 which means we’ll have a relatively high end build although it’s not quite as high end as your maxed out $2,500 build. That said, this build should easily play all your games at the highest [...]
With digital cameras and video recording now becoming more commonplace than ever, people are more and more looking for workstation PCs that can easily run their favorite image editing and video editing applications without a hiccup.
This month, we’re focusing on a relatively affordable workstation build for only $800 which will include everything you need for photo editing and light video editing.
Let’s take a look at how we did!

For those of you keeping up on our PC build guides over the past couple of months, in June we put together a very well rounded Haswell Gaming PC for under $1,500 and last month we put together a solid Haswell based Photo/Video Editing Workstation PC for under $1,200. Unfortunately, while the Haswell Gaming PC can do some workstation tasks quite well and while the Photo/Video Editing Workstation PC can play some casual games quite well, they’re fairly purpose oriented and don’t cross over very well.
Due to many e-mails requesting help on building a system that would be not only a superior gaming system, but also a superior workstation, [...]
Last month we went ahead and put together a next generation gaming PC utilizing both Intel’s latest Haswell based processor along with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 700 series graphics. This month, we’ll be doing another Haswell build, but this time around we’ll be focusing on content creators who need a fast system to help process photos and encode video.
Our budget this month is $1,200. This will provide us with a system that’s the best balance between performance and value. Let’s find out what we came up with!Haswell Photo/Video Editing Computer Build Component Summary [...]
Looking through my list of my featured computer builds, one build I felt really needed updating is the photo/video editing build as it’s one of the most requested builds along with the $1,000 gaming PC build, so for this month (well, the couple more days left for this month), that’s what we’ll do.
Now there’s a couple good photo/video editing builds I can think of, but when it comes to price to performance, I think the $1,000 – $1,400 range definitely provides the most bang for the buck, so today we’ll be doing a build that fits right into the $1,400 budget. Those [...]
Pre-built workstation computers designed for photo editing, video editing and 3D modeling can fetch well over $2000 and you still won’t get the performance and upgrade-ability that comes with a custom computer build. With our August 2012 workstation computer build, we’ll be focusing on building the best photo editing, video editing, and 3D modeling computer build for under that magic $1,000 price point.

This build is primarily focused on high end, intensive video editing with a secondary usage as an performance gaming PC. This means finding a balance of processing power and graphical power and all at the same time sticking to a budget of around $2500-$3000. We’re definitely looking for value here as well, so the closer to $2,500, the better.

For an enthusiast machine designed for both tons of video editing and tons of gaming in mind, we’ll need a powerful processor to handle all the work and it’s hard to think of anything better than the i7 3930K. Armed with a hyper [...]
Think you need to pay Dell, HP, or Apple $2,000 for a decent photo editing, video editing, or 3d modeling workstation these days? Think again! Build your own workstation PC for under $1,000 that will do the same exact thing and then some!

Since we’re running on a budget, we’ll take the best we can afford at under $1,000, and that’s the i5 2500K. While it’s recommended that you purchase an Intel Core i7 2600K as it will be able to take advantage of multithreaded photo editing, video editing, and 3D modeling [...]
A couple days ago, I posted the $2000 video editing and gaming build, but some of you have asked “What if I don’t have $2000 to spend on a computer? What then? What if I don’t play games and just want the best photo/video editing machine around with a budget of $1,000-$1,200? Can you recommend me a computer build?”
Well, yes. Certainly! I went back to the drawing board and here’s what I came up with for a great photo editing / video editing computer to fit into the budget. How’s that for ya?Budget: $1,000 – $1,200
