The Best PC Benchmarking Tools (System, CPU, GPU, RAM and Storage)

If you recently purchased or built a new PC, or upgraded an older PC, the most important thing to do aside from stress testing is to benchmark. Whereas stress testing helps ensure the PC is completely stable not only during idle but also during heavy load, benchmarking will help ensure that the PC is operating at the appropriate level of performance for the components installed. As simple issues such as an outdated driver or an improperly configured component may significantly degrade performance, benchmark testing will allow you to quickly catch any issues and to fix them immediately so you can take full advantage of the new hardware that you’ve spent your hard earned [...]

Dell announced a massive refresh of its Precision line of workstations at SIGGRAPH 2017, marking the first refresh of the Precision lineup in five years.

Since it’s the 20 year anniversary for Dell’s workstation business, it’s only fitting to talk about Dell’s first workstation and to see how far they’ve come in the 20 years. Dell’s first workstation was the WorkStation 400, which came in a beige box packed with either one or two Intel Penium II processors running at either 266 MHz, 300 MHz or 333 MHz. The system took as much as 512 MB of RAM and ran Windows NT. In 1997, this was absolutely cutting edge [...]

Dell Shows Off Epic Canvas 27-inch Pen Display at SIGGRAPH 2017

Microsoft’s Surface Studio is pretty cool. The 28-inch all-in-one desktop that instantly turns into a large canvas for drawing certainly drew a lot of attention when it was revealed last year, but there’s a couple major problems with it. First, you’ll have to fork out at least $3,000 for just the base model and second, you’re locked into the existing hardware with little to no upgrade path within just a few years.

To solve this issue, Dell revealed the Canvas 27, which is a solution that provides all the benefits the Surface Studio provides, but removes all the limitations. The Dell Canvas 27 is a massive pen display sporting a 27-inch Adobe RGB [...]

Buyer Beware: Dell U2518D HDR Monitor Has Fake HDR

Dell recently introduced their new U2518D 2560×1440 monitor which on paper is a pretty good monitor. The U2518D is a 25-inch 2560×1440 WQHD resolution IPS monitor capable of up to 99% sRGB coverage, 350 cd/m² maximum brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a 5ms GTG response time.

The only problem? Dell advertises that it includes a feature called “Dell HDR” which sounds a lot like HDR (High Dynamic Range), but it’s not. In fact, it’s not even close.
