AMD 7nm Products To Tape Out This Year

In an AMD investors meeting, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that AMD’s 7nm products will tape out this year.

To clear up some confusion, the tape out stage is where the design is finalized and sent for manufacturing. It’s unlikely that we will see the products until a few months after the tape out period.

In AMD’s product roadmap, both its upcoming Navi GPU and Zen 2 CPU will be based on 7nm FinFETs. The roadmap places Zen2 somewhere around 2018 and 2019, while Zen 3, based on 7nm FinFET+, will arrive sometime around 2020.

Rock Solid

Not too long ago, we reviewed the HyperX Alloy FPS, an excellent mechanical gaming keyboard for those looking for simple, portable, heavy duty gaming keyboard for both at home and on the go. Nixeus’s offering, the Nixeus Moda Pro, is designed for a more general user those looking for a simple, durable mechanical keyboard that not only offers [...]

FarCry 5 Takes Players to Montana

A teaser reveals that FarCry 5 will take place in Montana.

The 41 second clip shows an eerily quiet, vast landscape laced with danger.  Screams can be heard from the distance as well as gunshots, and dead bodies seem to populate the river. An unconventional way to ring church bells can also be seen.

The live-action teaser shows a variety of climates the player can expect to find themselves in. More details of the game will be revealed on May 26.

Nvidia Volta Titan X Leaked by Intern?

Though Nvidia’s GPU roadmap shows that Volta consumer graphics card won’t be coming until 2018, a Facebook post may have leaked the very first glimpse at what the Titan X Volta could look like.

The card in question sports a never-before-seen cooling shroud bearing the “Titan” logo. It uses an 8-pin and 6-pin power connector. Aside from the obvious appearance features, sharp-eyed users have also pointed out that it lacks the SLI connector. In its place are little notches (just above the logo) that bear resemblance to the NVLink connectors on the recently announced Nvidia GV100 workstation card.

While we know [...]

Western Digital Launches 10TB WD Red, WD Red Pro HDDs

Those looking for the absolute highest capacity HDDs for their NAS without breaking the bank will now have an option of purchasing the WD Red and the WD Red Pro in up to 10TB capacities.

In order to reach the new capacities, the new Red and Red Pro drives utilize WD’s HelioSeal technology where WD seals the drives and fills them with helium in order to cram more platters into the drive. This is a technology that has already been utilized on WD’s enterprise class drives, however, is now making its way into WD’s NAS drives for the first time. In addition to HelioSeal technology, the new drives will also include several NAS optimized features such as [...]

Destiny 2 on PC Will Only Be Available Through Blizzard’s Battlenet

In an earlier tweet, Blizzard has confirmed that Destiny 2 will be exclusively distributed through Battlenet, Blizzard’s online gaming service.

This move came as a surprise: Blizzard’s Battlenet platform has historically been reserved for only Blizzard titles. But considering Activision, the publisher for Destiny and Destiny 2, is a sister company to Blizzard, the decision to leverage the platform isn’t too much of a shock.

According to Blizzard, it was tasked with handling Destiny 2’s social and networking aspect. The game will leverage Blizzard’s global network and online social functionality.

Blizzard’s Battlenet [...]

Intel Denies AMD Graphics Licensing Rumor, AMD Stock Price Returns to Normal

Recently, Fuad Abazovic of online tech publication Fudzilla published an article, “Intel is licensing AMD’s graphics”, which confirmed without providing sources that AMD and Intel had struck a licensing deal for Intel to license AMD’s graphics technology. While the story was plausible given Intel and Nvidia’s history, it turns out that this was nothing more than rumor and speculation.

According to a recent article at Barron’s, Barron’s Tech Trader Daily blog recently received a statement from Intel stating that “The recent rumors that Intel has licensed AMD’s graphics technology are untrue.” Intel provided no [...]

Qualcomm Files Breach of Contract Lawsuit Against Apple Suppliers

In its ongoing royalty war with Apple, Qualcomm has filed yet another lawsuit, this time against Apple’s suppliers.

The targets of this lawsuit include Hon Hai Precision Industry, Winstron Corporation, Pegatron Corporation, and Compal  Electronics. Together, they serve as the production line for Apple devices worldwide. Despite a long history of diligently paying royalties to Qualcomm, the manufacturers are now refusing to pay royalties, citing that they were instructed by Apple not to pay. The Apple suppliers seem to have no quarrels with Qualcomm’s license contracts as they still pay royalties on any non-Apple devices, but are following Apple’s [...]
