Dell’s XPS 13 ultrabook just received a significant performance upgrade and enhanced asthetics.
The new XPS 13 now uses Intel’s 8th gen Quad-core i5-8250 and i7-8550 CPUs. The CPUs have a baseline TDP of 15W, but can be configured for to up to 25W. Dell states that the new cooling solution in the new XPS 13 can handle up to 27W, so it’s likely that the CPUs had their TDPs increased accordingly. Despite the robust cooling, the weight of the is kept at just 2.67 lbs.
The Dell XPS packs a display that guarantees a peak brightness of 400nits. It covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut and 72% of the Adobe RGB color gamut. Full HD and 4K [...]
Qualcomm’s latest midrange SoCs are finally here! The Snapdragon 660 and 630 SoCs are slated to replace the highly successful Snapdragon 653 and the Snapdragon 625 SoCs.
The Qualcomm 660 switches from the big.LITTLE architecture to a unified octa-core architecture. The new processor replaces the ARM Cortex A72 and A53 CPUs in favor of eight Kryo 260 CPUs. The GPU has also been updated to the Adreno 512. Qualcomm states that users would see a 20% improvement in compute performance and 30% improvement in graphics over its predecessor.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 leverages eight ARM Cortex A53 Cores similar to the Snapdragon 625. Maximum configurable [...]

IoT and machine learning are two of the fastest growing segments in the computing world and to help satiate the demand for ever more powerful hardware, more power efficient hardware, Nvidia announced the Jetson TX2 platform designed specifically for these applications.
Coming in a package that’s the size of an average credit card, the Jetson TX2 platform is twice as powerful as its predecessor, the Jetson TX1 platform, while sipping less than 7.5W of power.Manufacturer Nvidia Model Jetson TX2 GPU Pascal-based GPU with 256 CUDA Cores CPU Dual Nvidia Denver 2 x64, Quad ARM A57 RAM 8GB LPDDR4 Storage 32GB eMMC Camera 12 CSI lanes supporting [...]
In a recent announcement, SK Hynix launched their new 8GB LPDD4X DRAM designed for mobile devices. SK Hynix was able to achieve this by stacking four of their 16Gb dual channel DRAM dies.
Compared to traditional LPDDR4 DRAM, SK Hynix’s LPDDR4X 8GB packages reduce data IO operation voltage by 45%; operating at just 0.6V compared to the 1.1V of the LPDDR4. According to SK Hynix, the reduced data IO operation voltage should translate to 20% reduction in overall power consumption.
Additionally, the new package features a 30% smaller footprint compared to existing LPDDR4 at the same capacity. Its sub-1mm thickness also enables Package-on-Package stacking [...]
According to a recent announcement, Samsung recently introduced the industry’s first 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package designed for mobile applications.
In order to achieve this feat, Samsung’s 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package packs four 10nm class 16Gb LPDDR4 dies into a single package. Samsung claims that this new 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package is capable of up to 4,266Mbps per pin which provides up to 34GB/s throughput over a 64-bit memory bus. This is twice as fast as typical PC DRAM which operates at 2,133MHz per pin. It’s also power efficient as well with 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM consuming the same amount of power as a 4GB package of Samsung LPDDR3.
Further, the [...]
As expected, Google launched a whole host of new hardware today at their Made by Google event in San Francisco, California.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL
We’ve seen seeing quite a few leaks for the past couple days on Google’s new smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL. These phones will be replacing Google’s Nexus lineup of smartphones and will be Google’s first smartphone that will be fully Google branded although previous rumors have pegged HTC as the actual manufacturer. Whether HTC is just providing Google with manufacturing only or if they have anything to do with the design we’re not sure, but HTC [...]
OnePlus, the Chinese mobile phone company trying to revolutionize cheap yet powerful smartphones has just revealed their latest flagship smartphone. Aptly named the 2016 flagship killer, the OnePlus 2 is looking to carry on the legacy set by its predecessor and continue the company’s tradition of bringing flagship hardware to an affordable price-point.
The design of the OnePlus 2 largely coincides with the leaked pictures released earlier this week. The OnePlus 2 will indeed come with a metallic bezel and a flat back. The camera has been moved closer to the center of the phone for easy shooting in landscape mode, and the stock back cover will still feature [...]
According to a recent announcement, Samsung is now mass producing 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM paving the way for mobile DRAM packages up to 4GB in capacity.
Based off Samsung’s new 20nm process, Samsung claims that the new 8Gb LPDDR4 dies allow for double the performance, double the density, and 40% more power efficiency compared to current generation Samsung 20nm class 4Gb LPDDR3. Thanks to a data rate of 3,200 Mbps, Samsung’s LPDDR4 is able to support UHD video recording and playback along with continuous shooting of high resolution pictures over 20 megapixels.
“By initiating production of 20nm 8Gb LPDDR4, which is even faster than the DRAM [...]
