Dell Releases New XPS 13 (9370) Laptops With Quad Core Processors

Dell’s XPS 13 ultrabook just received a significant performance upgrade and enhanced asthetics.

The new XPS 13 now uses Intel’s 8th gen Quad-core i5-8250 and i7-8550 CPUs. The CPUs have a baseline TDP of 15W, but can be configured for to up to 25W. Dell states that the new cooling solution in the new XPS 13 can handle up to 27W, so it’s likely that the CPUs had their TDPs increased accordingly. Despite the robust cooling, the weight of the is kept at  just 2.67 lbs.

Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 660 and 630 SoCs

Qualcomm’s latest midrange SoCs are finally here! The Snapdragon 660 and 630 SoCs are slated to replace the highly successful Snapdragon 653 and the Snapdragon 625 SoCs.

The Qualcomm 660 switches from the big.LITTLE architecture to a unified octa-core architecture. The new processor replaces the ARM Cortex A72 and A53 CPUs in favor of eight Kryo 260 CPUs. The GPU has also been updated to the Adreno 512. Qualcomm states that users would see a 20% improvement in compute performance and 30% improvement in graphics over its predecessor.

OnePlus 5 Leaked Ahead of Schedule at Online Retailer

The successor to the legendary OnePlus 3T may have been inadvertently leaked on Oppomart, a popular online Chinese marketplace.

According to the leaked product page, the list image is the same as leaked images we’ve seen previously. The phone is pictured to feature a matte black finish and a dual camera system. The fingerprint reader is expected to be placed at the front.

Nvidia Announces Jetson TX2 Edge Computing Platform

SK Hynix Launches First 8GB LPDDR4X Mobile DRAM

In a recent announcement, SK Hynix launched their new 8GB LPDD4X DRAM designed for mobile devices. SK Hynix was able to achieve this by stacking four of their 16Gb dual channel DRAM dies.

Compared to traditional LPDDR4 DRAM, SK Hynix’s LPDDR4X 8GB packages reduce data IO operation voltage by 45%; operating at just 0.6V compared to the 1.1V of the LPDDR4. According to SK Hynix, the reduced data IO operation voltage should translate to 20% reduction in overall power consumption.

Samsung Rolls Out 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM Packages

According to a recent announcement, Samsung recently introduced the industry’s first 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package designed for mobile applications.

In order to achieve this feat, Samsung’s 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package packs four 10nm class 16Gb LPDDR4 dies into a single package. Samsung claims that this new 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package is capable of up to 4,266Mbps per pin which provides up to 34GB/s throughput over a 64-bit memory bus. This is twice as fast as typical PC DRAM which operates at 2,133MHz per pin. It’s also power efficient as well with 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM consuming the same amount of power as a 4GB package of Samsung LPDDR3.

Samsung Now Mass Producing 8Gb LPDDR4 Mobile DRAM

According to a recent announcement, Samsung is now mass producing 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM paving the way for mobile DRAM packages up to 4GB in capacity.

Based off Samsung’s new 20nm process, Samsung claims that the new 8Gb LPDDR4 dies allow for double the performance, double the density, and 40% more power efficiency compared to current generation Samsung 20nm class 4Gb LPDDR3. Thanks to a data rate of 3,200 Mbps, Samsung’s LPDDR4 is able to support UHD video recording and playback along with continuous shooting of high resolution pictures over 20 megapixels.
