Still one of those holdouts on upgrading past Windows Vista, but really, really love playing World of Warcraft? Well, that’s too bad because Blizzard has made the decision to pull the plug on support for the older operating systems which Microsoft itself hasn’t supported since 2012.
According to Blizzard, the decision was made to continue supporting the older operating systems after its official EOL date by Microsoft because a significant portion of gamers were still on the older OSes, but most have now upgraded to one of the newer operating systems.
Blizzard plans to pull the plug in a staggered schedule starting in October of this year. Once [...]
Die hard Starcraft fans will be happy to know that Blizzard has recently announced that Starcraft Remastered will be available starting August 14.
The remastered edition of Starcraft will bring significant graphics to the game, supporting resolutions up to 4K so you no longer have to play Starcraft at a pitiful 640×480 on your brand spankin’ new 35-inch, 200Hz, G-Sync monitor. Other enhancements include upgraded audio/sound, a new matchmaking and leaderboard system, and cloud saving for campaign, hotkeys, and replays.
Starcraft: Remastered will include both the original Starcraft and the Starcraft: Brood War expansion and can now be [...]
In a recent job posting, Blizzard subtly dropped hints indicating that it’s planning on working on remastered editions of several of its classics such as Diablo and Warcraft. The job listing states:
Classic Games is looking for a renaissance designer to harmonize that which was, with that which will be. Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo await your machinations. If you have the desire to rise to that challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
It’s unclear if Blizzard is simply looking for an extra hand to integrate its classic lineups into newer titles or if in fact they’re planning on full remasters of their classics, but considering they [...]
In an earlier tweet, Blizzard has confirmed that Destiny 2 will be exclusively distributed through Battlenet, Blizzard’s online gaming service.
This move came as a surprise: Blizzard’s Battlenet platform has historically been reserved for only Blizzard titles. But considering Activision, the publisher for Destiny and Destiny 2, is a sister company to Blizzard, the decision to leverage the platform isn’t too much of a shock.
According to Blizzard, it was tasked with handling Destiny 2’s social and networking aspect. The game will leverage Blizzard’s global network and online social functionality.
According to a recent Reddit post, Reddit user Khemist49 recently purchased a bunch of old Blizzard stuff off Ebay and came across an interesting disk labeled “STARCRAFT Gold Master Source Code”. Upon realizing the disk actually contained the gold master source code for the original StarCraft game, Khemist49 got in touch with Blizzard, and promptly sent the disk back to Blizzard where it was confirmed to be genuine, known to be missing and possibly stolen.
As StarCraft source code is a major trade secret for Blizzard, if the source code were leaked, this could have serious consequences especially as StarCraft has regained some popularity recently with [...]
Starcraft is without a question the biggest competitive RTS series to have ever existed. Though Starcraft II has been out for 7 years, the original Starcraft is still going strong and continues to be played around the world. Due to its popularity, Blizzard has announced the Remastered edition of Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War which is slated to launch this summer.
The biggest change in the Remastered Edition will be the graphics. The game will have refined textures, effects, and sounds. It will also have proper support for 4K resolution. Further, both the singleplayer and multiplayer experience will also be improved in the remastered edition. Blizzard aims to [...]
Looks like Microsoft isn’t the only company no longer supporting older versions of Windows. Blizzard has officially announced the final end of support for Windows XP and Vista. Affected games include Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Heartstone, Diablo, and Heroes of the Storm.
According to a post on Blizzard’s Battle.net community forums,
Starting later this year, we will begin the process of ending support for Windows XP and Windows Vista in World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm. Microsoft ceased mainstream support for these versions of Windows in 2009 and 2012, respectively, but since a decent portion [...]
Players of Blizzard’s Overwatch will be thrilled to know that Overwatch’s Halloween Terror Event running from October 11 – November 1 is now live on Patch 184.108.40.206, confirming earlier info found on the Overwatch Taiwan’s official website and several less concrete rumors that have been circulating the community leading up to today.
This long awaited limited time event will follow similarly to the Summer Olympics event format with glowing Jack-O’-Lantern lootboxes, providing over 100 event exclusive skins, voice lines, highlights and other customization collectibles, and spooky altercations to the Hollywood map. And as usual, all [...]
Razer never lags behind in gaming aesthetics. With the recent launch of Blizzard’s Overwatch, Razer has applied the game’s signature black and yellow color scheme some of its most popular peripherals.
Razer and Overwatch fans would be glad to know that the Overwatch theme has been applied to the Blackwidow Chroma gaming keyboard, the DeathAdder gaming mouse, and the Goliath Extended gaming mousepad. Not only did the products receive a new paint job, Razer also paired them with a customized lighting effect through the Razer Chroma lighting engine.
Razer has also designed a new headset entirely around the new theme called the Razer [...]
As you probably know, there was a invitational stress test beta test weekend test for Overwatch, Blizzards new first person shooter featuring MOBA elements.
Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t invited, and I intend to write Blizzard a strongly worded letter some point. Hurt feelings aside, a friend was kind enough to let me use their account to play the beta for around 45 minutes or an hour… Or three days… I’m not good with time. The point being, I didn’t get to play as much as I’d have liked to, but I feel my experience was something I wanted to talk about.
I knew very little about Overwatch [...]
