G.SKILL is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of capacity and performance with their memory kits, and at IDF 2016 they showed off some of their fastest and highest capacity memory kits available. At the show, G.SKILL demoed both the 128GB Trident Z DDR4-3333MHz CL14 kit as well as the 64GB Trident Z DDR4-333MHz CL13 kit which represent some of the highest capacity high performance DDR4 kits out on the market today.

While DDR4 3333MHz kits have been available for quite some time, they’ve been generally only available in lower capacities such as 16GB kits. However, thanks to the use of Samsung’s new high performance DDR4 8Gb DDR4 DRAM dies, G.SKILL [...]

Nvidia Launches GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Priced Under $200

Nvidia recently launched the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB which was confirmed at a Chinese tech conference not too long ago.

Whereas in previous generation cards, a difference in onboard memory is just a difference in onboard memory, the new GeForce GTX 1060 3GB not only has just 3GB GDDR5 memory, but it also has one of its SM units disabled giving it just 1152 CUDA cores rather than the 1280 on the full GP106 die. Other specifications include a 192-bit memory interface, 48 ROPs, and 72 TMUs. The GeForce GTX 1060 3GB is expected to be clocked at 1506/1708MHz core/boost and 8GHz effective memory out of the box.

AMD Zen Architecture – 40% IPC Improvement, Faster Than Broadwell-E

Although this week is Intel Developer Forum week, it hasn’t stopped AMD from stealing the thunder by unveiling a host of new details about their highly anticipated Zen CPU architecture.

Quantum Leap in Performance, Efficiency Performance

As you’d expect, AMD has done quite a bit in terms of redesigning the entire CPU architecture with Zen when compared to previous CPU architectures to greatly improve performance.

The biggest improvement here is likely going to be the micro-op cache. This allows the Zen cores to decode up to 4 instructions per cycle with an additional 2 thanks to the new micro-op cache. Previously, the Bulldozer [...]

GlobalFoundries Confirmed Skipping 10nm, Jumping Directly to 7nm Process

In a recent interview with SemiWiki, Gary Patton, CEO of GlobalFoundries, confirmed that GlobalFoundries will be skipping the 10nm process and jumping straight into 7nm. They believe that 10nm, just like 20nm will be a very short lived node and isn’t worth the effort.

GlobalFoundries currently offers 14nm FinFET thanks to a licensing agreement with Samsung, but is further working on developing a 7nm process thanks to an acquisition of IBM’s Microelectronics business back in July of last year. Their first 7nm process will be developed with optical, but will also support EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) when the technology is ready.
