iFixit Gives Microsoft’s Surface Laptop a Zero in Repairability

The Microsoft’s Surface Laptop is the latest victim to iFixit’s teardown. The result? Not pretty.

This is the first time in a long time that a device has received a repairability score of zero. Reading through the teardown article, it seems like the most the complaints stem from the fabric cover. iFixit states that the cover is glued on using plastic ultrasonic spot-welds and is impossible to put back on once removed.

In its final verdict, iFixit wrote:

The Surface Laptop is not a laptop. It’s a glue-filled monstrosity. There is nothing about it that is upgradable or long-lasting, and it literally can’t be opened without destroying [...]

Microsoft to Host Another Press Event on May 23

Shortly after revealing Windows 10 S and the Surface Laptop, Microsoft is planning to “show the world what’s next”, this time in Shanghai.

The theme of this event is unclear. The barren teaser site starkly features an image of Shanghai city and #MicrosoftEvent banner.

Microsoft fans have their fingers crossed for an updated Surface Pro. Despite an excellent quarter, Microsoft saw a 26% dip in Surface revenue. A refresh on the Surface Pro 4 is desperately needed, and a new Surface Book can’t hurt either. Many are also  holding out on the possibility of a Surface Phone.

The event is just three weeks away, so more information should [...]
