When Razer acquired Nextbit in January this year, we had a feeling that they would put that acquisition to good use combining Nextbit’s smartphone engineering know-how with Razer’s own gamer twist. After just less than a year in the making, Razer unveiled their latest smartphone which may be the first decent smartphone ever produced specifically for gaming and content consumption.
The new smartphone, which Razer calls the Razer Phone, looks very similar to the Nextbit Robin, which was Nextbit’s flagship smartphone before the company was acquired by Razer. From there, Razer has made some serious enhancements to the product to make it one of the most [...]
The 8th gen iPhones are the most speculated iPhones the past 7 years. Today, Apple has officially ended the rumor mill with the official release of the iPhone 8 family consisting of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the peculiar iPhone 8X.
Hate it or love it. All iPhone 8 models feature a glass back construction. It’s sleek as hell and allows for wireless charging, but also slippery in sweaty hands and prone to cracking. Definitely use case if you’re a klutzy. All iPhone 8 models
The key upgrade to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is the new 6-core A11 Bionic SoC. This new chip uses two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. During its [...]
Samsung recently launched their highly anticipated smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, at their Unpacked event recently held in New York City.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is marks Samsung’s first return to the Galaxy Note series after the massive failure of the Galaxy Note 7, a smartphone that was plagued with battery issues resulting in Samsung completely pulling the smartphone only a few months after its initial introduction.
As expected, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is packed with some of the latest features available to modern smartphones including its hallmark feature, the 6.3-inch 2960×1440 resolution Super AMOLED “Infinity Display” [...]
AMD’s Zen based server platform, EPYC (codename Naples), has been in the works for quite some time and it finally appears ready for prime time. At AMD’s recent EPYC launch event in Austin, Texas, AMD fully detailed their new server platform designed to challenge Intel’s dominance in the server market.
AMD EPYC 7000 Series Processor
Launching today is no less than twelve CPU SKUs in the AMD EPYC 7000-Series processor lineup. The new CPUs will feature up to 32-cores/64-threads, 8-channel DDR4 memory support (up to 2TB of memory per CPU), 128 PCIe lanes, a dedicated security subsystem, and an integrated chipset.
Qualcomm’s latest midrange SoCs are finally here! The Snapdragon 660 and 630 SoCs are slated to replace the highly successful Snapdragon 653 and the Snapdragon 625 SoCs.
The Qualcomm 660 switches from the big.LITTLE architecture to a unified octa-core architecture. The new processor replaces the ARM Cortex A72 and A53 CPUs in favor of eight Kryo 260 CPUs. The GPU has also been updated to the Adreno 512. Qualcomm states that users would see a 20% improvement in compute performance and 30% improvement in graphics over its predecessor.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 leverages eight ARM Cortex A53 Cores similar to the Snapdragon 625. Maximum configurable [...]
Apple’s iPhone 8 is on track to launch in September and go on sale in October, according to a recent report by Economic Daily News.
This new statement contradicts previous beliefs that the iPhone 8 will be delayed due to poor yields of the OLED displays. Analysts predicted that the iPhone production will be severely hampered by supply after the initial launch.
Newly improved production yield rates have seemingly resolved this issue. Volume production of components will ramp up in June. iPhone manufacturing companies including Foxconn, Winston, and Pegatron are also aggressively recruiting and training new workers to prepare for the production of new [...]

Back in December 2016, Qualcomm and Microsoft had demonstrated Windows 10 running on a mobile device equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. In the demo, Windows 10 was shown running on a smartphone via emulation. The demo also showcased the scaling functionality of Windows Universal Apps.
At the time, no additional information was provided as to when a Snapdragon SoC based Windows 10 device would ship.
However, at their recent earnings call, Qualcomm revealed plans to “disrupt” existing suppliers of PC by launching a Snapdragon 835 powered Windows 10 device by the end of this year.
According to Qualcomm CEO, Steve Mollenkoph:

In a recent announcement, Samsung reports that 10nm FinFET yields are high and they’re on track for a production ramp up.
Samsung initially began production using its 10nm FinFET process with their 10nm FinFET LPE (Low Power Early) process back in October 2016. The process showed a 30% increase in area efficiency with 27% higher performance or up to 40% lower power consumption. Since its initial production, Samsung claims that more than 70,000 wafers have been shipped. Samsung’s Exynos 8895 SoC and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 will be the first chips made with the 10nm FinFET LPE process. Both chips are expected to arrive with Samsung’s next [...]
Not even a month has passed since AMD launched their Zen based Ryzen desktop CPUs and AMD is already preparing their assault against Intel’s Xeon server dominance with their upcoming Zen based Naples CPUs.
The new server CPUs, which AMD refers to as SoCs will feature 32-cores/64-threads, eight memory channels, up to 2TB of DDR4 memory, and 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes. This is spec for spec far more powerful than its chief competition, the Intel Xeon E5-2599A v4 processor which features a paltry 22 cores, four memory channels, up to 1.54TB of DDR4, and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes. AMD claims that the Naples SoC is able to offer 60% better performance and 122% more memory [...]
