Crucial has recently announced the BX300 SSD, the latest update to the BX family of value oriented SSDs.
Available in capacities of 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB, the Crucial BX300 now packs the latest Micron 3D MLC NAND. Paired with the Silicon Motion SM2258 controller, the Crucial BX300 sports performance up to 555/530 MB/s sequential reads/writes and up to 95K/90K 4K random reads/writes for the top capacity. Write endurance is rated between 55 to 160TBW depending on capacity.
The Crucial BX300 is now available for $59.99 for the 120GB capacity, $89.99 for the 240GB capacity and $149.99 for the 480GB capacity. All drives come with a 3 year warranty.
After the successful release of the Force MP500 PCIe SSD earlier this year, Corsair is adding another PCIe SSD to the mix with the new Corsair Neutron NX500.
The new SSD will be available in capacities of 400GB, 800GB, and 1600GB will come in an HHHL form factor and feature support for NVMe over a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. Performance of the Neutron NX500 is rated at up to 3,000/2,400 MB/s sequential reads/writes and 300K/270K IOPS 4K random reads/writes. The NX500 will also feature MLC NAND for greater performance and reliability compared to TLC NAND.
The Corsair NX500 400GB and 800GB capacity drives are now available with the 1,600GB capacity drive available [...]
Are you one of those gamers who wears a full set of camo and combat boots before launching Battlefield 1? Apacer has got just the perfect SSD for you.
Aptly called the Apacer PT920 Commando, the new PT920 is a MLC NAND based PCIe x4 SSD carrying a heatsink styled off the lower of an AR-15 rifle. Apacer says this is not only an aesthetic decision, but it’s also a strategic one for improved heat dissipation.
Performance wise, the Apacer PT920 Commando features sequential read performance up to 2,500 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 1,350 MB/s with the 480GB capacity model. The PT920 will arrive in capacities of 240GB and 480GB.

Over the past few months, there hasn’t been a whole lot of good news coming out of Toshiba, but here’s a recent announcement that I think we can all appreciate. In a recent announcement, Toshiba shared news that they’ve developed the industry’s first 4-bit per cell, Quad Level Cell (QLC) BiCS NAND flash memory chips.
The new QLC NAND features a 64-layer cell structure and boasts up to 768Gbit / 96GB per die making it currently the densest dies on the market. By using 16 dies, Toshiba is able to cram as much as 1.5 TB in a single package. This is a 50% increase over a comparable TLC NAND package with the same number of dies.

Several years ago, Samsung made their first introduction into the branded memory card space with their EVO and PRO lineup of memory cards and quickly dominated the space thanks to its great performance, reasonable pricing, and strong brand.
Following the introduction of the EVO and PRO memory card lines, Samsung also introduced the EVO Plus and PRO Plus lineup of memory cards back in 2015 to offer consumers a memory card that offers better performance and higher capacities than its predecessors. Although the EVO Plus and PRO Plus memory cards were already a great choice for customers, advancements have been made in NAND flash memory [...]
Palit is expanding its business into the SSD sector with the release of its UVS and GF-S series SSDs.
The UVS series SSD is powered by a Phison S3111-S11 controller paired with TLC NAND. Sequential read and write performance is rated at 560MB/s and 470MB/s respectively, while random read and write is rated at 290MB/s and 340MB/s.Manufacturer Palit Model UVS10AT-SSD120 UVS-SSD256 UVS-SSD480 UVS-SSD512 Capacity 120GB 256GB 480GB 521GB NAND Planar TLC 3D TLC Sequential Read 560MB/s 560MB/s 525MB/s 525MB/s Sequential Write 375MB/s 470MB/s 465MB/s 465MB/s Random Read 280MB/s 270MB/s 290MB/s 290MB/s Random [...]
In case you haven’t heard, there’s been a massive NAND shortage in the industry due to a combination of lower production along with higher than expected demand.
According to a recent report by market intelligence firm, DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, mainstream client SSDs are feeling the effects of the shortage as contract prices are expected to increase over 10% in the 1Q2017. MLC based products are expected to see a price increase of 12%-16% and TLC based products are expected to see a price increase of 10%-16%. As a result of the shortage, shipments of client SSDs are expected to drop 7%-8% in 1Q2017.
Due to customer preferences, the NAND [...]
At CES 2017, we recently stopped by to speak to our friends at Mushkin to take a quick look at what they’re planning on doing for the upcoming year and so far, it’s looking to be an exciting one. Not only is the memory giant launching a few new storage solutions, it’s also heading into the peripherals market with a great looking keyboard.
Mushkin Helix PCIe SSD
First up is the Mushkin Helix PCIe SSD, which is Mushkin’s first M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. Powered by the Silicon Motion SM2260 in combination with Micron 3D MLC NAND, the Helix has a sequential read speed of 2.5GB/s and a sequential write speed of 1.1GB/s. Random I/O performance [...]
When Samsung launched the Samsung 960 series SSD at their annual SSD Global Summit back in September, they promised two new drives – the Samsung 960 PRO and the Samsung 960 EVO.
Last month, we reviewed the Samsung 960 PRO which is designed for performance enthusiasts and professionals. In our testing, it exceeded our expectations making it the fastest M.2 PCIe SSD we’ve ever tested to date. Unforutnately, the Samsung 960 EVO wasn’t available at the time however, Samsung was hopeful that early samples would be available soon.
Fast forward and today we’ll be reviewing the Samsung 960 EVO, which is Samsung’s first [...]
Think about the last time you, your family or your friend got into a car accident. Was the insurance process easy? Or was it difficult? Did the other party make up or exaggerate what happened?
In the lawsuit-happy society that we live in, the need to record what happens on the road has become more important than ever and although car video recorders are common outside of the US, these devices are only starting to gain traction here.
Today we’ll be reviewing the Transcend DrivePro 520 which is a car video recorder which is designed to help give drivers evidence of events that occur on the road to ensure that parties are truthful about what really [...]
