Review: AMD Ryzen 1700

Well, this is it ladies and gentlemen. We’ve been waiting anxiously for over a year now for AMD’s latest Processor, after the disappointment of Bulldozer the PC building scene became primarily an Intel favored one for most serious workloads. While AMD’s APUs have found a pleasant place in the budget market and the FX lineup became a decent option for gamers looking for good bang for the buck, AMD remained way behind Intel in technology for what seams like forever. That changes today. Today we will be looking at Ryzen, will it live up to the hype? Will it fall flat on it’s face?

AMD Ryzen Wraith Stock Cooler Pictured, Specifications Revealed in Latest Rumor

Following up on the leaked image of trays of AMD Ryzen CPUs as well as an up close shot of the CPU, a new image of a chart with SKUs and specifications of the stock Ryzen Wraith Cooler have also popped up around the web.

Currently, there seem to be two coolers available. The Wraith Max cooler is designed for up to 140W TDP CPUs while the Wrath Spire is designed for 95W TDP CPUs. The Wraith Max looks to have at least two heat pipes that extend out from the base and into the heatsink. The Wraith Spire simply has a fan seated on top of a circular cooler. Despite being rated for up to 140W and 95W TDP, both coolers are quite compact. Horizontal footprint is rated at 105mm [...]

AMD Shows Off New Quieter “Wraith” Stock CPU Cooler

AMD just released a demo showcasing its all-new redesigned stock thermal solution to be bundled with upcoming CPUs. The new heatsink, which AMD dubs Wraith, is a massive improvement over the current stock offerings and features a four copper heat-pipe design.

Taking a look at the video demonstration provided by AMD, we can see — or rather, hear — that the new Wraith cooler is considerably quieter than the AMD stock cooling solution, thanks to a larger, slower fan, combined with the larger surface area of the newly designed four copper heat-pipe heatsink. This allows the cooler to push more air at a lower speed, while still dissipating as much, if not more heat [...]
