HP Announces ZBook X2 Mobile Workstation

HP has released the world’s first 2-in-1 convertible mobile workstation. The HP ZBook X2 aims to bring high performance into a versatile form factor that’s also familiar to professionals already proficient to drawing tablets.

The ZBook X2’s design borrows much from today’s drawing tablets. The ZBook X2 has a column of function buttons on either side of the display, much like many high-end drawing tabs do. An adjustable kickstand at the rear lets the user’s hands rest in a comfortable position.

PNY Unveils Prevail Pro Mobile Workstation at SIGGRAPH 2017

At SIGGRAPH 2017, PNY announced that they’ll soon be jumping into the mobile workstation market with their latest PNY Prevail Pro P3000 and Prevail Pro P4000 mobile workstations.

The new mobile workstations which are just 0.78-inches thin and weigh in at just 4.8Lbs, feature up to a 15.6-inch 4K UHD(3840×2160) display, an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM, and Nvidia’s Quadro Mobile P3000 for the Prevail Pro P3000 and the Quadro Mobile P4000 (Max-Q) for the Prevail Pro P4000. Storage options include up to 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs and up to a 2TB HDD.

Dell Reveals Precision 5520 Anniversary Edition at Private SIGGRAPH 2017 Event

At a special event at SIGGRAPH 2017, Dell revealed the Precision 5520 mobile workstation, commemorating 20 years of Dell Precision workstations.

Crafted in a beautiful brushed aluminum finish, the Dell Precision 5520 mobile workstation is according to Dell the thinnest and lightest 15-inch mobile workstation on the market. The laptop features a thickness of just 0.66-inches at its thickest point and a weight of just under 4lbs for the fully loaded unit.

Keylogger Discovered in HP Audio Driver

A keylogging vulnerability has been discovered in HP laptop’s audio driver, says the independent Swiss security firm Modzero.

The security concern stems from the way the audio driver handles inputs from media control keys. The driver process, called MicTray64.exe, records when media keys are pressed and change settings accordingly.

This is harmless on its own, but the problem is that the driver also writes keystrokes to a text file called MicTray.log. If the file is obtained, the attacker can extract personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers.

PR: Dell Officially Launches the Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation

Looks like Dell finally got around to launching their long awaited Precision M3800 that we were lucky enough to get a taste of all the way back at SIGGRAPH 2013.

Doesn’t look like much has changed since then. Specifications include an Intel Core i7-4702HQ processor, Nvidia Quadro K1100M GPU, support up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, and the option for a 15.6″ Ultrasharp (IGZO powered) QHD (3200 x 1800) display. Despite the high performance components onboard, Dell has managed to squeeze everything into a 18mm (0.71″) thin aluminum and carbon fiber frame.
