Review: AVADirect Avant Mini Cube Gaming PC

Big Performance in a Mini Cube

AVADirect is a boutique system builder with its origins in the suburbs of Cleveland Ohio. It’s probably not one of the first names that pop into your head as a system builder, but they’ve been making everything from gaming to business systems for over a decade.

Recently, AVADirect launched their Avant Mini Cube Gaming PC which is exciting because it’s based on Corsair’s excellent Carbide 240 Air PC case. Despite the relatively small size of the mATX formfactor case, AVADirect managed to fully kit it out with an overclocked Intel Core i7-6700K and GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition. Given how much we love big performance in [...]

Nvidia Alleviates Concerns Founders Editions Cards Designed to Compete Against Partners

For Nvidia’s most recent launches of high end Pascal based graphics cards such as the GeForce GTX 1080, Nvidia made an unusual move to launch their own Founders Edition graphics cards before their partners were allowed to begin selling their own branded graphics cards. Given that recently launched high end graphics cards tend to be the most profitable, Nvidia partners weren’t exactly thrilled as it raised concerns that Nvidia was trying to take over the high end graphics market for themselves.

However, according to a recent article by Taiwanese tech publication DigiTimes, Nvidia CEO Jen-hsun Huang claims this is not the case. Huang claims that the reason [...]

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Review Round-Up – Pascal Goes Mainstream

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1060 has launched today, and while finding a car on store shelves may be a bit difficult, there are plenty of reviews available to help you make an informed purchasing decision once they are in stock. The GTX 1060 is NVIDIA’s answer to AMD’s RX 480, which was released at the end of last month in an aggressive push for the mainstream market. At a starting price of $249 ($299 for NVIDIA’s Founder Edition), the GTX 1060 is still a bit more expensive than the RX 480, almost $50 more than the 4GB model and a much smaller gap of just $10 for the 8GB model. Still, both cards being in the $200-$300 market, there will definitely be a lot [...]

Well, today a slew of reviews for NVIDIA’s new prince have been released, and performance is definitely better than we expected. Reviews from some of our favorite place the GTX 1070 at roughly 20% slower (even less depending on resolution) than the GTX 1080 in most modern games, and as much as 15% faster than the GTX 980 Ti, which makes NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1070 one of the best value propositions  available.

Here are some of the standout quotes [...]

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Founder’s Edition Explained

During NVIDIA’s unveiling of their next-generation GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards, they’d mentioned two price points for each card; the base MSRP and a $100 premium for what they dubbed the “Founder’s Edition.’ initially, what this meant was a little confusing. Is the Founder’s Edition higher binned? is NVIDIA offering two reference models of their flagship GPU? – Well, no, thanks to some additional reporting since the original unveil, it turns out the answer is much more simple than that.

The ‘Founder’s Edition’ is simply NVIDIA’s new name for their own reference designed cards. It is the one and only [...]
