Review: Patriot Viper 4 DDR4 2,800MHz 16GB Kit (2x8GB)

Solid Memory at a Reasonable Price

Several years ago, we reviewed the Patriot Viper 3 which was a great memory kit with aggressive styling, good performance, and a reasonable cost. Since then, we’ve seen the launch of DDR4 alongside several new platforms which support the new memory including Intel’s Skylake and Broadwell-E platforms.

The switch to DDR4 brings on several new features, the most notable benefit is that DDR4 dies are expected to be significantly higher density than DDR3, allowing manufacturer to achieve higher capacities per DIMM. DDR4 also operates at higher frequencies yet requires lower operating voltages paving way for higher performance [...]

Kingston HyperX Genesis: LoVo 8GB DDR3 Kit (2x4GB) Review

Go Green!

Since we’re mostly enthusiasts here at Custom PC Review, we typically enjoy reviewing the highest clocked, lowest latency memory, but with energy efficiency becoming so popular these days with companies introducing ultra energy efficient 28nm GPUs, 22nm CPUs, and solid state drives, it only seems logical to find out what kind of energy efficiency may be had by going with low voltage memory.

This is why today, we’ll be reviewing the Kingston HyperX Genesis: LoVo 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz kit. (Which will now be referred to as HyperX LoVo for simplicity’s sake in the review.) Whereas the Kingston HyperX name typically implies high performance [...]

G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Memory Review

Memory manufacturers are a dime a dozen and it’s actually quite hard to find inexpensive, yet high quality memory, but one company that is consistently able to provide such a product is G.Skill. If you have no idea who G.Skill is, they’re a relatively large manufacturer of memory products and, more recently, solid state drives.

So, what prompted this memory review? Is this some cutting edge space age stuff? Well, no. What it is, is some typical, run of the mill, relatively inexpensive, reliable enthusiast grade memory. So, what do we do with products like these? Well, we run it through some of our most intense testing, overclock it as high as [...]
