CES 2015: Creative’s Sound Blaster X7 Packs DAC, 100w Amp, 1 Ohm Headphone Amp Under $500

At CES 2015, Creative displayed tons of new products, but there was no doubt that the Sound Blaster X7 was the star of the show.

At about the size of a Bluetooth speaker, the Sound Blaster X7 is unlike anything Creative has ever produced. Inside its stylish black casing, the Sound Blaster X7 is not only a high-end external DAC, it’s also a serious amplifier capable of delivering up to 76w of power (or 100w with the optional 24V, 6A power adapter).

In order to achieve this, the Sound Blaster X7 features Creative’s proprietary SB-Axx1 multi-core DSP that we’ve seen in several generations of Sound Blaster [...]

CES 2015: Zotac’s New GTX 970 Core Graphics Cards, ZBOX Pico PCs

At their CES suite this year, Zotac showed off several new and upcoming GeForce GTX 970 based graphics cards and ZBOX Pico mini-PCs.

The first new graphics card introduction is the Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Edition, which removes some of the fluff from the original GTX 970 AMP! Extreme card and reduces the size of the cooler to fit into two slots. Zotac also shaved off some weight from the card by using lighter materials, but still managed to keep the full backplate along with the triple fan design.

The Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core Edition will feature clock speeds of [...]

CES 2015: NZXT Reveals DOKO Streaming Box Micro-console Doodad

When we visited NZXT at CES this year, we expected more of the same from the company. Cases, power supplies, fans, case accessories, etc. The usual, if you will. But imagine our surprise when we went to their suite to find none of that. Instead, their suite was completely empty save a single product – a new toy NZXT calls the DOKO, a PC streaming device that promises to bring the PC into the living room at a fraction of the cost of an actual PC.

Equipped with a Wonder Media 8750 CPU and 256MB of RAM, the DOKO is capable of streaming 1080p content at 30FPS. Simply install the software on your PC, hook up the DOKO streaming box to your TV and [...]

CES 2015: Syber Vapor SLIM Prototype, Vapor Stream Prototype

Several weeks ago, we had the opportunity to review the Syber Vapor Xtreme, a new PC gaming console from CyberPowerPC’s newest sub-brand, Syber. Since we were fairly impressed with what Syber had done with their first PC gaming console, we stopped by their suite at CES 2015 to take a look at what’s coming next.

While Syber didn’t have too much to show us just yet, they did have a couple products under development that looked quite promising.

First up is the Syber Vapor SLIM, which is still very much a prototype at this time. As you’d expect from the name, the Syber Vapor SLIM carries most of the features of the [...]

CES 2015: Cooler Master Talks Restructuring Plans, 3D Vapor Chamber, CoolChip Partnership

2014 has been an unusually quiet year for Cooler Master. The computer component and peripheral giant who typically launches at least five to ten products every quarter hasn’t really made a whole lot of noise over the past year. As such, we were a bit curious to find out what happened to such a prominent force in the industry, so we took a quick trip to the Cooler Master CES suite to talk to Marketing Manager, Rajiv Kothari.

When we arrived at the Cooler Master suite this year, the suite was unusually clean, uncluttered, and relatively quiet. Here we met up with Rajiv, who spoke to us for a good hour about Cooler Master’s plans for the [...]

CES 2015: Samsung Silently Unveils EVO Plus, PRO Plus MicroSD, SD Cards

Samsung had a little surprise for us at their booth this year at CES 2015 as they displayed several upcoming, unannounced SD and microSD cards.

Last year at CES, Samsung got serious about entering the branded memory card business with the introduction of the Samsung EVO and Samsung PRO microSD and SD cards, and for this year it appears they will be introducing an upgrade to the lineup with the Samsung EVO Plus and the Samsung PRO Plus.

First up is the Samsung EVO Plus memory cards which will be available in both the microSD and SD card form factors in the 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities. The 128GB capacity will be [...]

CES 2014: Razer Nabu Wearable Device, Project Christine Gaming PC

As usual for CES, PC gaming peripherals giant Razer had probably some of the most exciting stuff to show at CES 2014.

Razer Nabu

Without a doubt, CES 2014 was dominated by smart wearable devices. From Google Glass clones to smartwatches, everybody and their moms had something to show and Razer did too.

Dubbed the Razer Nabu, the Nabu is a social wristband wearable that also does notification and tracking.  Hardware wise, it’s a simple device. The entire unit is constructed of a comfortable rubber material. There’s a notification LED up top and there’s an OLED screen at the bottom. The top of the device quickly notifies you of [...]

CES 2014: OWC Displays SandForce SF3700 based M.2 SSD, Promises Mac Upgradeability

CES 2014 was big for LSI SandForce and OWC, being one of SandForce’s oldest partners, had plenty to show for that as well.

Pulled directly from OWC CEO Larry O’Connor’s pocket, we were able to get a glimpse of a working sample of OWC’s upcoming M.2 form factor SandForce SF3700 based SSD. Hardware-wise, OWC M.2 SSD we saw featured a LSI SandForce SF3739 controller paired with SanDisk 19nm MLC flash with performance capable of up to 1,800MB/s read/writes.

Given OWC’s love for Apple, OWC has told us that they’re planning on producing these M.2 form factor drives in both PCIe x2 and PCIe x4 as drop-in replacements for [...]
