Razer and Professional Online Gamer Athene Raise More Than $1M for ShareCraft Save the Children
Razer and Professional Online Gamer Athene have announced that they have raised more than $1 million ($1,010,704 so far) in charitable contributions to support ShareCraft Save the Children Challenge. With two days remaining in the planned fundraising drive, the company and champion gamer hope to significantly raise awareness of the ShareCraft-enabled philanthropy which is dedicated to relieving hunger around the Horn of Africa.
Through his passion and commitment, Athene has inspired his friends, fans, followers and the gaming community at-large to raise $1 million, with 90% of those donations going directly to those fighting to survive the worst hunger crisis in the past 60 years. DC Entertainment pledged to match 100% of donations up to $1 million, which accounts for 50% of the running total.
“It’s through generous donators, my fans and partners like Razer that make achieving this goal possible and we’re so thrilled to surpass our initial goal,” said Athene.
The challenge also has an interactive, competitive component with a leaderboard that tracks donations, rewarding top supporters with Razer gear.
The considerable dollar amount raised through Athene and Razer’s collaborative effort underscores the relevance of online gaming as a global phenomenon and demonstrates the collective power of gamers as catalysts of positive social change.
