Hands On: Metavision Meta 2 Sub-$1,000 AR Headset

While VR tends to be the hot buzzword these days, another technology, AR or Augmented Reality, is also gaining quite a bit of traction thanks in large part to the publicity from Pokemon Go, Google Glass and also the Microsoft Hololens.

At SIGGRAPH 2017, we had a chance to hang out with Metavision, a Silicon Valley startup, to check out their new Meta 2 AR headset, which could very well be the best AR headset currently available on the market.

Microsoft Begins Shipping HoloLens to Japan

Microsoft recently added Japan to the list of countries that will receive the HoloLens, the company’s esteemed augmented reality headset.

Japan will be receiving both the developer as well as the commercial editions of HoloLens. Microsoft states that one of its biggest partners, Japan Airlines, has already prepared two proof-of-concept programs ready to use with HoloLens. The new programs will focus on providing training to mechanics and would be pilots.

Microsoft Announces $299 VR Headsets Supporting Windows 10 Creator’s Update

Microsoft has been in the VR/AR market for quite some time with their HoloLens, but with a pricetag starting at $3,000, it’s far too expensive for the general customer.

At Microsoft’s recent press event, Microsoft is trying to change that as they’ve recently announced that they’re working with a number of hardware partners including HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and Acer to begin introducing a new line of VR headsets starting at just $299. This significantly undercuts popular VR headsets such as the HTC Vive which costs $800 and the Oculus Rift which costs $600.

Microsoft Expands HoloLens Augmented Reality Glasses to Six New Countries

In the up and coming world of VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality), one of the most interesting products is Microsoft’s HoloLens, Microsoft’s AR headset designed to utilize Windows Holographic platform in Windows 10.

When Microsoft was initially launched the HoloLens early last year, the HoloLens was only available to developers and enterprises in the US and Canada, however, according to a recent announcement, Microsoft will now invite developers and enterprises from Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom to order the HoloLens as well.

E3 2015: Microsoft Pulls 180, Xbox Gets its Groove Back

With the radically different Windows 10 arriving on machines later next month, change has been in the air for Seattle based Microsoft, who recently held a press conference at E3 2015.

At their press conference, Microsoft practically reinvented the struggling Xbox One, giving it a number of updates, both hardware and software, that were desperately needed when the system launched two years ago.
