Patriot has just announced dual kit versions of its Viper 4 DDR4 memory targeted towards content creators and gamers.
Patriot’s new Viper 4 DDR4 dual memory kit is designed for the Z170 platform and Intel’s latest Skylake CPUs. The Viper 4 will ship in 8GB (2x4GB) and 16GB (2x4GB) kits in frequencies ranging from 2400MHz to 3400MHz. Each kit is hand tested for quality assurance and validated for system compatibility.
The Viper 4 memory kits is compatible with Intel’s XMP 2.0 standard which lets users easily overclock the RAM with predetermined profiles. The Viper 4 will ship with a timing of 16-18-18-36, and can be over-clocked to 16-16-16-36. [...]
Although once dominant as the go to pre-packaged SSD controller solution for most tier 2 and tier 3 SSD manufacturers, SandForce’s aging SF-2281 controller has been rapidly losing marketshare as of late thanks to newer pre-packaged controller offerings from Phison and Silicon Motion.
Last year we reviewed the Angelbird SSD wrk which was an excellent SSD that featured Silicon Motion’s SM2246EN controller, and at the same time Phison had been shipping their new high performance S10 controller in the very well received Corsair Neutron XT.
Although we didn’t get to test the Corsair Neutron XT at the time, [...]
Back in late 2012, we rounded up a total of thirteen memory cards from a number of memory card vendors and put them to the test in both synthetic and real world applications. At the time, we tested both SD and CF cards from various vendors to find out which of the cards performed the best, which of the cards provided best value, and at which point do returns begin to diminish in the real world. Ever since we published that article, many of you have asked us for an update which is already in the works pending a couple more samples from various memory card vendors.
Now one type of memory card we’ve never addressed is the [...]
For most of us, personal data has been increasing at a rapid rate and while cloud services have popped up to help keep all that data synced, nothing really beats keeping a copy of your own data close at hand. With USB 3.0 and its higher bandwidth now becoming more and more mainstream, it’s now far easier to move all that data around.
A couple months ago, we did quite an extensive roundup of the top 64GB USB 3.0 flash drives on the market and while 64GB seems like a lot especially in comparison to what was available only a couple years ago, it’s quite paltry these days, when trying to back up video, pictures, or even a digital game [...]
A couple weeks ago, I was talking with a couple colleagues about DSLR cameras, and invariably the topic about high speed SD and CF memory cards came up. What we wanted to know is if a high speed memory card such as the Lexar Professional 1000x CF (Compact Flash) card will actually perform better than a SanDisk Extreme 400x CF card under typical real world conditions. When looking at the price difference between the two cards, the SanDisk Extreme 400X 32GB CF card runs for about $88 while the Lexar Professional 1000x 32GB CF card runs for about $135, that’s a difference of nearly $47!
Since testing only two memory cards seems almost wasteful, [...]
With the introduction of the Panther Point chipset along with Ivy Bridge CPUs, USB 3.0 has become more mainstream than ever before, which means those purchasing a new system nowadays can take full advantage of the additional bandwidth offered by USB 3.0. For those unfamiliar with the benefits of the USB 3.0 specification, USB 3.0 is theoretically capable of hitting up to 5.0 Gb/s, which is over 10x faster than the USB 2.0 specification of 480 Mb/s. To put this in perspective, the SATA 3 specification has a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 6 Gb/s, so in theory a USB 3.0 flash drive is capable of achieving “SSD-like” transfer rates.
With back to [...]
Founded in 1985, Patriot Memory offers a diverse variety of products ranging from SSDs to media players, but their most renowned product line is of course system memory. After all, the company’s name includes the word memory.
Among Patriot Memory’s memory products, the Viper lineup has established itself as the king of the hill with its gorgeous looks and uncompromised performance, so when Patriot gave us a sneak peek their newest Viper 3 memory kits at GESL 2012 last month, they certainly piqued our interest.
The Patriot Viper 3 lineup comes in 3 different speeds – 1600MHz, 1866MHz, and 2133MHz, and can be found in dual [...]

Time for another sponsor booth over at GESL 2012! This time, we’ll be taking a look at memory giant, Patriot Memory, who’s got a pretty cool booth showcasing all their latest memory products.
In their booth, Patriot Memory’s got a slick looking “glass wall” with pretty much everything they have to offer attached. They’re also giving away some swag *FREE PENS!* and they’re contributing a ton of stuff to the many giveaways going on, so if you’re in need some new memory or a new SSD, be sure to drop by GESL! *No joke… I saw stacks and stacks boxes of stuff [...]
Patriot Memory recently announced a couple more flagship SSDs just in time for CeBIT. These new SSDs, dubbed the Wildfire SE and Wildfire Pro, will be yet another SandForce SF-2281 based SSD boasting read/write speeds of up to 550MB/s and 500MB/s respectively.
The Wildfire SE is expected to be available in the traditional capacities of 120GB, 240GB and 480GB and be backed by a pretty standard 3 year warranty while the Wildfire Pro is expected to be available in some strange capacities (massive over-provisioning?) of 100GB and 200GB, but will be backed with a 5 year warranty. (YAY!)
Pricing, availability and performance is still unknown at this time, but [...]
Someone asked me for help with a very high end gaming build, but something that doesn’t go overboard on price so I decided to put something together that would fit around $2,000 and check out what I came up with!Budget: $2,000 – $2,200
CPU – Intel Core i7 2600K
While the X79 platform and its 3930K is currently available on the market, most games simply don’t require that much processing power and are more likely to be limited by your graphics capability rather than your processing capability. Normally I’d recommend the i5 2500K, but with a larger budget, we can afford to get the i7 2600K for additional future [...]
