Following reports of malfunctioning LG UltraFine 5K Displays last month, Apple has officially halted the sale of the monitor from both its website and retail locations.

The monitor’s misbehavior stemmed from a poor EMI shielding design flaw. When placed near a Wi-Fi router, the display would exhibit abnormal flickering or turn off altogether. LG has acknowledged this as being a design issue and advised users to place the display at least a few meters away from their router.

This solution obviously doesn’t work for users with limited office space, sparking outrage from disgruntled customers who paid nearly $1,000 for what they believed would be a flawless monitor. To compound the issue, Apple discontinued the production its Thunderbolt Retina display a few weeks ago leaving disgruntled users without a clear alternative.

Earlier this month, LG promised to fix the issue on all newer monitors and are retrofitting older monitors with the fix. As this is happening, Apple has pulled the monitor and lists the shipping time for the LG UltraFine 5K monitor as “5-6 weeks”. Apple has also confirmed that it has returned all current inventory of LG UltraFine 5K monitors back to LG for retrofit.

The 21.5″ and the 27″ LG UltraFine 4K Display are unaffected by this issue.
