Late last year, it was reported that Microsoft may halt support for newer processors and it looks like Microsoft has just made it official.
According to a new Microsoft knowledgebase article (ID# 4012982) published earlier this month, a new error message may appear when a user attempts to update a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC using an Intel 7th Generation Core Processor (Kaby Lake), AMD Bristol Ridge, Qualcomm 8996, or newer processors including AMD’s new Ryzen processors which were launched several weeks ago.
Users who attempt to update Windows 7 or 8.1 may receive the following error messages:Unsupported Hardware Your PC uses a processor that [...]
Ever since Windows 8, Microsoft has tried to push their Windows apps onto users and while some apps may be useful on devices such as smartphones or tablets, they’re more often than not just very bad versions of apps that already exist in Windows.
One such app is Skype Preview, which have somehow creeped its way into many users Windows 10 installations. Unfortunately, many users have found that Skype Preview is buggy and unusable compared to the already existing Skype for Desktop app. After all, even Microsoft calls the Windows 10 app a “preview” rather than a final version of the product.
Today, we’ll show you how to remove [...]
Check your Windows Updates as Microsoft has just released a new patch for the notoriously insecure Adobe Flash player running on the equally notoriously insecure Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.
According to the patch notes, an attacker could execute malicious code on a exploited system by directing users to a specially crafted website designed to exploit the vulnerabilities.
In a web-based attack scenario where the user is using Internet Explorer for the desktop, an attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit any of these vulnerabilities through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the website. An attacker [...]
As computer hardware reviewers, we do a lot of OS installs and having a reliable place to download the Windows Operating System ISOs is critical. Unfortunately, for some reason Microsoft doesn’t offer a quick and easy way to do so.
While Microsoft’s does offer a method to download an installer which can help you create an ISO, it’s a hassle compared to getting a direct link to the ISO file then putting the ISO file onto a bootable USB drive. Another way of course is to go through some sort of Bittorrent site; however, with the questionable legality of doing so along with the risk of downloading a virus/trojan/some other malware along with the [...]

Today at Oculus Connect, the company’s CEO, Brendan Iribe announced a new, much lower minimum requirement for running VR games using the Oculus Rift. This advancement is thanks to a technology called Asynchronous Spacewarp or ASW. This feature effectively allows a system to deliver a stable 45 frames per second, and then doubles it and fills in the gaps in order to hit the 90Hz target for a smooth VR experience. This is a very similar technique to the “Interleaved Reprojection” technology which is employed by the HTC Vive.Oculus Rift New Minimum Specifications Nvidia 960 or greater (down from Nvidia GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater) Intel [...]

The tech community has recently gone up in arms against Microsoft after their reaffirmation that they will not be supporting CPUs newer than Intel Haswell on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. While many has seen this as a power play by Microsoft to force users to upgrade to Windows 10, HotHardware recently presented a possible alternate explanation with much less malicious intent.
According to HotHardware, the decision not to support newer CPUs on older operating systems boils down to additional features that were added to the new CPUs. This largely includes the newest power saving features from both Intel and AMD as well as SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) from [...]
