Review: PNY GeForce GTX 750, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 750 Ti OC

High Performance, Low Energy Consumption

Recently, we came away very impressed with the MSI GeForce GTX 750 Gaming GPU, which was our first opportunity to check out a graphics card based off of Nvidia’s new Maxwell based GeForce GTX 750 series GPU. The GTX 750 series GPUs are Nvidia’s first GPUs to use Nvidia’s brand new, highly efficient SMM architecture to replace the older SMX architecture used on Nvidia’s previous generation Kepler based GPUs.

At launch, we unfortunately only got the opportunity to check out the GTX 750, which was the entry level GTX 750 series GPU. Alongside the GTX 750, Nvidia also launched the GTX 750 Ti, which is very similar [...]

Review: MSI GeForce GTX 750 Gaming 1GB

Hello Maxwell

Four years ago Nvidia launched the 40nm based Fermi GPU, two years ago Nvidia launched the 28nm based Kepler GPU, and now, two years after Kepler’s launch, it’s now time for Nvidia to launch their latest and greatest GPU – Maxwell.

Back at GTC of last year, we first officially received confirmation of Nvidia’s Maxwell GPUs, with Maxwell’s main goal of continuing the trend Nvidia began setting with their Kepler GPUs – better performance yet not at the expense of increased power consumption. Prior to Kepler, Nvidia had traditionally not worried too much about power consumption as long as performance increased by leaps [...]

Review: MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming 4G

R9 290 Meets Twin Frozr IV

Late last year along with the unveil of AMD’s flagship Radeon R9 290X graphics card, AMD also unveiled a lower cost offering, the Radeon R9 290, which promised only slightly lower performance at a significantly lower price.

Since then the Radeon R9 290 has been extremely popular, and due to high demand and a shortage in components, we haven’t really seen any custom designed Radeon R9 290’s on the market until late last January.

That said, today we’ll be reviewing a the MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming 4G, which is MSI’s latest custom designed graphics card based off AMD’s Radeon R9 290 GPU. Given that the Radeon R9 [...]

Bitcoin Values Continue Plummet as Mt.Gox Discovers Security Flaw in Software

Last week we reported that one of the world’s largest Bitcoin exchanges, Mt. Gox, had suspended Bitcoin withdrawals due to technical issues and this week, Mt. Gox has released the details as to exactly what happened.

According to a recent statement released by Mt. Gox,

“A bug in the bitcoin software makes it possible for someone to use the Bitcoin network to alter transaction details to make it seem like a sending of bitcoins to a bitcoin wallet did not occur when in fact it did occur. Since the transaction appears as if it has not proceeded correctly, the bitcoins may be resent. MtGox is working with the Bitcoin core development team and others to [...]

Bitcoin Value Plummets as Mt. Gox Exchange Suspends Withdrawals

In a panic sell in response to Japan based Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox suspending Bitcoin withdrawals due to technical issues, Bitcoin values plummeted over 20% overnight from around $950/BTC to a low of $735/BTC. In late January, Bitcoins were trading at a high of nearly $1,000/BTC.

Mt. Gox released this statement earlier today regarding Bitcoin withdrawal delays:

Dear MtGox Customers,

In our efforts to resolve the issue being encountered by various bitcoin withdrawals, it was determined that the increase in the flow of withdrawal requests has hindered our efforts on a technical level. To understand the issue thoroughly, the system needs to be in a static [...]

Best Mid-Range Gaming PC Build Under $1,000 [February 2014]

Full HD 1080P Gaming PC Under $1,000!

The original plan for December of 2013 was to update the $1,000 Gaming PC Build that really hasn’t been updated since December of 2012. Unfortunately as I started working on the build article late last year, I wasn’t too happy with a lot of components that I had to make compromises in, in order to fit the budget. At the time, I wanted to close 2013 with a build that had the highest performance for the dollar, which is why I ended up increasing the budget to $1,200.

Now after posting the build, a number of you requested that I post a $1,000 gaming PC build as well – a system that not only [...]
