Monitor Input Lag Comparison

One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a new gaming monitor is the latency. While monitor manufacturers advertise wonderful sounding response times such as 1ms GTG or 4ms, keep in mind that these numbers only refer to the time it takes for a pixel to change colors from grey-to-grey or from black-to-white or whatever the monitor manufacturer has decided. However, this number is not standardized among manufacturers and does not cover the latency it actually takes for the image to be processed in the monitor.

In order to solve these issues, a different method of benchmarking monitors is by input lag. Unlike measuring only the time it takes for a pixel to change colors, input lag measures the amount of time it takes from a signal being generated until an image is shown on screen. As such, input lag provides a significantly better metric for measuring latency on a monitor.

Below is a comparison list of monitors we’ve tested for input lag using the Leo Bodnar Video Signal Lag Tester.  We’ll be updating it regularly, so be sure to check back often!
