When Eero launched last year, it helped drive a revolutionary shift in the WiFi router market. Unlike the traditional WiFi router which was complicated to configure and manage for the average user, Eero wanted to create something that was easy to setup, easy to manage and could provide reliable whole home WiFi coverage no matter the size of the home. For the most part, Eero achieved its goal.
Now that it’s a bit more than year later, Eero has revealed the 2nd Generation Eero. Rather than a major redesign, the 2nd Generation Eero focuses on improving on the first generation product while simultaneously launching lower powered wall mounted node [...]

One of the easiest yet least known ways to drastically improve any PC’s ability to defend itself against malware such as adware or spyware is to simply redirect malicious websites using the hosts file. What is a hosts file and how does editing it block malware?
Before we begin, let’s first talk about what a host file is. When a PC accesses the internet, it uses a DNS server to resolve domain names to IP addresses. Your PC then follows the IP addresses to the servers that will serve you a webpage or provide you with another service.
For example, when you type in Google.com, your PC will ask a DNS server what the IP address of Google.com is. The DNS [...]
For those who use the internet in any way, having a VPN service is essential. VPN services not only help protect your security online, but can also help you get around government censorship, geo-restricted content filters, and ISP traffic shaping.
As a part of a new series of VPN reviews, today we’ll be reviewing VPN Unlimited by KeepSolid. KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is a New York based VPN service with development teams in Ukraine founded back in 2013. The service is well reviewed, offers lots of servers around the globe, and is reasonably priced, but does it live up to its expectations? Let’s find out!

In this day and age of hackers, government spying, and Nazi ISPs putting down arbitrary rules on who gets full speed to view which service, having a VPN service is by far one of the most important things to have for anyone on the internet.
While I’m sure we would all run VPNs if we had the choice, the problem with VPNs is that it costs money. At the end of the day, VPN provider needs to pay for bandwidth, servers and technicians to run the VPN server. While the costs for a decent VPN service are generally under $15 per month, paying for a VPN is a bit like paying for insurance. You just don’t really want to do it until it’s too late.
Lucky for you, [...]
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is one of the best ways to keep information about your internet usage private from hackers, your ISP, and the government. However, if it’s not setup properly or if the VPN service only secures your connection in some ways and not others, then you still leave yourself vulnerable to monitoring and security issues.
Today we’ll be discussing how to check if your VPN actually secure and how to check for any IP Leaks.
What is an IP Leak?
Before we begin, the most important thing is to understand what an IP Leak is. An IP Leak is broad term that covers any instance where your real IP is “leaked”, [...]
With the explosion of mobile and IoT, Wi-Fi demands in the home have increased exponentially in the past few years causing many people to realize just how bad home Wi-Fi is. As a solution to home Wi-Fi issues, mesh Wi-Fi has exploded in popularity over the past year prompting almost every networking company to scramble to release some sort of mesh Wi-Fi offering.
Coming a bit late into the game is TP-Link, which recently launched the Deco M5 that we’ll be reviewing today. Like many of the mesh Wi-Fi systems on the market, the TP-Link Deco M5 is designed with performance, range and ease of use in mind however, what TP-Link has also done [...]
For network admins and network security professionals, one of the most important tools to learn to use is Wireshark (formerly Ethereal), a free and open source network analyzer/packet sniffer software for Windows, Mac and Linux that will allow network admins to quickly and easily capture frames, packets, segments/datagrams, and above in real time to monitor traffic going in and out of their networks.
Our tutorial today will guide you through some of the basics of using Wireshark to capture packets, filter them, and understand the data being presented. We also want to use this opportunity to educate our readers on why using encryption is so important, even when simply [...]
Being an Editor here at Custom PC Review, I’m constantly in need of lots of mass storage. At CES 2017, I took over 1,000 14-bit RAW images using a Nikon D800 camera which generated files somewhere between 40MB-45MB each. After exporting them, another set of images are then created which take less, but still require quite a significant amount of storage space. Tack that onto 50Mbps 1080p video along with the thought of possibly doing 4K video down the road and the need for lots of reliable storage quickly adds up.
Of course, the easy solution is to throw a couple hard drives into your PC because that’s cheap and easy, but I also wanted the data [...]
Over the past few years, video surveillance has become increasingly popular in homes and businesses, and the reason for this is simple. Years ago, installing a video surveillance system typically involved hardwiring every single camera to a DVR and only those who purchased expensive higher end DVRs could then watch the footage on their laptops or smartphones. As you can imagine, this is both costly and impractical especially for an average home or small business owner.
Recently, things are much different thanks to the explosion of the IoT market as new solutions have made video surveillance affordable and easy to setup. As such, today we’ll be showing you [...]
