AMD has always been aggressive in terms of pricing. AMD Ryzen chips already undercut their Intel Core i7 counterparts by hundreds of dollars and it looks like AMD’s upcoming Threadripper CPUs are about to do the exact same to Intel’s Core i9 chips as well.

Today, AMD revealed pricing for their upcoming Threadripper 1950X and Threadripper 1920X CPUs, which significantly undercuts Intel’s recently launched Core i9 series processors.

The pricing for AMD Ryzen Threadripper is as follows:

  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X (16-Core/32-Thread, 3.4GHz/4.0GHz) – $999
  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X (12-Core/24-Thread, 3.5GHz/4.0GHz) – $799

Pricing information about additional Threadripper SKUs are still unavailable at this time. In comparison, here’s a look at pricing for Intel’s competing Core i9:

  • Intel Core i9 7980XE (18-Core/36-Thread) – $1,999
  • Intel Core i9-7960X (16-Core/32-Thread) – $1,699
  • Intel Core i9-7940X (14-Core/28-Thread) – $1,399
  • Intel Core i9-7920X (12-Core/24-Thread) – $1,199
  • Intel Core i9-7900X (10-Core/20-Thread) – $999

Looking at the prices, we can see that AMD was clearly ready to wage a pricewar that Intel may not have been ready for. Intel’s 16-Core/32-Thread Core i9-7960X processor will cost $700 more than AMD’s 16-Core/32-Thread Threadripper 1950X while Intel’s 12-Core/24-Thread Core i9-7920X will cost $400 more than AMD’s 12-Core/24-Thread Threadripper 1920X.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs along with AMD X399 motherboards are expected to ship in August. Alienware Area 51 systems featuring AMD Threadripper parts will begin shipping later this month.

In addition to the big Ryzen Threadripper pricing reveal, AMD also revealed information about their upcoming Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X processors.

  • AMD Ryzen 3 1300X (4 Core/4 Thread, 3.5GHz/3.7 GHz)
  • AMD Ryzen 3 1200 (4-Core/4 Thread, 3.1GHz/3.4 GHz)

There’s nothing new here as AMD had pretty much already revealed the specs of Ryzen 3 in their announcement of the Ryzen PRO lineup. The AMD Ryzen 3 processors are expected to launch on July 27. Pricing is still currently unavailable at this time.
