Patriot Viper V770 Review

Introduction

Although Patriot Memory is most well known for its memory kits, Patriot has become quite the major player in the gaming peripheral business in the past few years.

At CES 2017 earlier this year, we were first introduced to the Patriot Viper V770 mechanical gaming keyboard, which would be Patriot’s flagship mechanical gaming keyboard of 2017. At the show, the Patriot Viper V770 showed quite a bit of promise as a solid premium mechanical gaming keyboard with features such as RGB backlit Kailh Red Switches, a ton of built-in features, dedicated macros, and a LED wristrest.

Over the past few months, we’ve had the opportunity to review the [...]

Nvidia Volta Titan X Leaked by Intern?

Though Nvidia’s GPU roadmap shows that Volta consumer graphics card won’t be coming until 2018, a Facebook post may have leaked the very first glimpse at what the Titan X Volta could look like.

The card in question sports a never-before-seen cooling shroud bearing the “Titan” logo. It uses an 8-pin and 6-pin power connector. Aside from the obvious appearance features, sharp-eyed users have also pointed out that it lacks the SLI connector. In its place are little notches (just above the logo) that bear resemblance to the NVLink connectors on the recently announced Nvidia GV100 workstation card.

Review: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-04 Chassis

Introduction

Corsair recently updated their budget case lineup with the new Carbide SPEC-04, the successor to the Carbide SPEC-03. The Carbide SPEC-04 brings an overhauled design and some extra features yet maintain its budget price point.

For our review today, we received the Corsair Carbide SPEC-04 in black however, it will also come in red and yellow as well. Corsair’s Carbide SPEC case series has always had the design language that screamed gaming, but the fourth iteration of the series, the SPEC-04, is quite a bit different. Whereas previous generation SPEC series cases featured an ultra-aggressive design, the new SPEC-04 features a design that’s a bit more [...]

Sharp Displays IGZO 27″ 8K 120Hz IPS Prototype Monitor at CEATEC Japan 2016

Looks like somebody forgot to send Sharp the memo that we’re barely getting to 4K 60Hz as they recently showed off a working IGZO 27-inch 8K 120Hz IPS monitor at CEATEC Japan. The monitor, which is still just a prototype, features a full 7,680×4,320 resolution giving it a staggering 326ppi – the same pixel density as an iPhone 6 except at 27-inches.

As this is just a prototype, it doesn’t contain Displayport 1.4 outputs, so several cables are used to feed video into the display. Even with Displayport 1.4 however, the spec only goes up to a maximum of 8K at 60Hz, so an entirely new spec would need to be released just to take advantage of [...]

Review: EVGA X99 FTW LGA 2011-3 Motherboard

Almost… for the win

EVGA is a company known for selling top-notch enthusiast hardware such as graphics cards, power supplies, and motherboards. The subject of this review is centered around one of its top motherboard branded under the ‘FTW’ moniker. The ‘FTW’ branding stands for “For The Win”, which our young whipper-snappers would tell you symbolizes a nod of approval on the internet. More than just an internet slang, EVGA’s FTW branding is part of EVGA’s penultimate performance tier, of which the Classified brand reigns supreme.

Despite such a winner’s naming scheme, the EVGA X99 FTW actually represents the [...]

Review: Creative Sound BlasterX H5 Gaming Headset

X Marks The Spot

I had to do a double take when I first saw the Creative Sound BlasterX H5. The red “X” marked on the side of the ear cups looked eerily similar to another headset I’d previously reviewed.

Moving past the initial identity mashup, the Creative Sound BlasterX H5 is a mid-tier gaming headset in Creative’s H series gaming headsets designed to offer good audio performance for the money without all the extra bells and whistles typically associated with the higher end gaming headsets.

Manufacturer Creative Model Sound BlasterX H5 Drivers 50mm Neodymium Full Spectrum Custom Tuned Drivers Impredance 32Ω Sensitivity 118dB/mW at [...]

Review: Steelseries Stratus XL for Windows and Android

Does Bigger Mean Better?

As hardware becomes more power efficient and compact, Steam Machines and other small form factor systems are slowly beginning to invade the living room. As a result, PC gamers have found themselves spending more time on the couch, and playing games on the TV.

This transition to a more casual gaming environment has also sparked many peripheral makers to pursue the customized gaming controller market. Many of today’s hit titles such as Rocket League and Mortal Kombat X tend to fare much better with the controller.

Awhile back we had posted about our E3 hands on experience with the Stratus XL, SteelSeries’ answer to the developing [...]
