Raja Koduri, head of AMD’s Radeon Technology Group (RTG), has recently revealed that he will be going on a sabbatical starting September 25 until December.
According to a recent article at PC Perspective, employees of RTG received the following email:
You haven’t heard from me collectively in a while – a symptom not only of the whirlwind of launching Vega, but simply of the huge number of demands on my time since the formation of RTG. Looking back over this short period, it is an impressive view. We have delivered 6 straight quarters of double-digit growth in graphics, culminating in the launch of Vega and being back in [...]

Rounding out the Radeon lineup, AMD has launched its budget friendly RX 560 graphics card which will sit between the RX 550 and the RX 570.
The AMD Radeon RX 560 aims to deliver high performance and top notch energy efficiency to gamers on a budget. The new graphics card is powered by AMD’s new Polaris 21 GPU built on Global Foundries 14LPP (Low Power Plus) process. The GPU packs 16 Compute Units for a total of 1,024 Stream Processors. Core clock is set at 1,175 MHz base and 1,275 MHz boost. Memory configuration includes either 2GB or 4GB GDDR5 running on a 128-bit interface.Model AMD RX 560 GPU Polaris 21 CU / Stream Processors 16 / [...]
Following the leak of 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark scores for AMD’s upcoming Vega graphics card last week, some new 3D Mark FireStrike benchmark scores may have recently been revealed on 3D Mark’s benchmark database as well.
Before we jump into the results, let’s take a quick look at the specifications. While the card is still unnamed on the database at this time, we can see that it’s an AMD graphics card with a core clock of 1,200MHz, memory bus clock of 700MHz, and 8GB of graphics memory. This is in line with what we’re expecting for AMD’s Vega graphics card. It also features a device ID of 687F:C1, [...]
AMD’s stock fell by a gut-wrenching 24.4% on Tuesday, marking the worst single day stock performance for AMD in over 12 years.
The fallout occurred shortly after AMD released its earnings. Despite a solid 18.3% increase in quarterly revenue, low gross margins worried investors. During the quarter, AMD’s gross margins were 34%, which is a mere 2% improvement over the last year. Investors had hoped AMD would be able to achieve 36-40% gross margins thanks to sales of higher margin Ryzen CPUs which were launched in early March.
In an interview, AMD’s CEO Dr. Lisa Su assured investors that gross [...]
A few weeks ago, AMD launched the Radeon RX 500 series, which is mostly a refresh of the previous-generation RX 400 series they launched less than a year ago. Mostly because the Radeon RX 500 series is based on the very same Polaris architecture as its predecessor, albeit on a slightly more mature process. Whatever your stance on rebadges, it’s clear that AMD has decided to double-down on its Polaris architecture in 2017, at least for the midrange and entry-level segments until its RX Vega GPUs appear later on to cover the high-end market. So like it are not, Polaris is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Today, we’re going to take a [...]
The release of the $79 AMD RX 550 is giving AMD a huge advantage in the ultra low end segment in the graphics card space and according to a recent report at WCCFTech, Nvidia is reportedly planning to strike back.
The upcoming low-end solution from Nvidia will not feature the GTX moniker, and will just feature the GT prefix. The card may be dubbed as the GeForce GT 1030/1040 and will feature a minuscule 35W power profile.
The upcoming card is expected to feature the GP108 GPU which was previously expected to be for mobile applications. GP108 will contain just 521 SMPs, 32 TMUs, and 16 ROPs. Just as the Polaris 12 GPU in the Radeon RX 550, the GP108 [...]
Today, AMD launched their refreshed, Radeon RX 500 series graphics which focus on the mid-range, and entry-level gaming markets. These new cards are based on the same Polaris architecture as the previously released Radeon RX 400 series of GPUs, albeit with a few notable enhancements. These new GPUS will go head-to-head with NVIDIA’s GeForce 10 series, specifically the GTX 1060 6GB and 3GB, and the GTX 1050 and GTX 10580 Ti. If you were hoping for some competition on the higher-end from AMD, you’ll have to keep waiting for their upcoming RX Vega GPUs who’s availability is still currently unknown, but AMD assures us Vega is “just around the [...]
At this point, the release date for AMD’s RX 500 series is pretty much confirmed. Though AMD hasn’t made any official announcements, PowerColor Philipines recently hinted on its Facebook page that a new Red Devil card, likely based on the AMD Radeon RX 580, is coming on April 18. This aligns with the AMD Radeon RX 500 series launch date reported in previous rumors.
According to previous rumors, the Radeon RX 500 series is likely a rebadge of the Radeon RX 400 series with some minor tweaks. The full RX 500 series lineup is expected to consist of the Radeon RX 580, RX 570, and the RX 550.
