CES 2017: Zotac Shows Off Mini PCs, ZBOX Graphics Dock, GTX 1080 Mini

Continuing our coverage of CES 2017, we arrive at Zotac, a company best known for manufacturing NVIDIA graphics cards. While the company did have the full range of GTX 10 series cards on display, including their recently announced GTX 1080 Mini, it was clear that Zotac has another passion: making powerful miniature PCs.

Zotac at CES 2017

Starting with the slew of mini PCs, the first of which was the ZBOX C1549 Nano, a small fanless design which features a 7th generation Core i5 processor, 16GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics. This passively-cooled powerhouse is specifically tailored to HTPC usage with its completely silent operation. However, we did see a demo with a [...]

Razer Mechanical Keyboard Case Review

Razer’s Ultra Low-Profile Mechanical Switch Makes Its Debut

Ever since I laid my hands on a mechanical keyboard several years ago, I was hooked. Today, almost every keyboard I own is mechanical with the exception of the keyboard on my laptop and a Bluetooth keyboard I use from time to time with my HTPC or tablet. Wouldn’t it be great if everything could be mechanical? I sure think so and Razer seems to think so as well.

Several weeks ago, Razer introduced their new Ultra Low-Profile Mechanical Switches which attempts to solve one of the biggest hurdles to mechanical switches being implemented in portable applications – size. Up until this point, mechanical [...]

Today, CYRORIG the PC cooling company submitted their first entries into the highly competitive computer case market, revealing two new mini-ITX chassis, which bear some fairly unique design aspects.

CRYORIG UNVEILS ‘OLA’ and ‘TAKU’ ITX PC CASES

The first of the new cases, dubbed “OLA” features a very Mac Pro-like cylindrical design.  CRYORIG says the OLA is “designed to blend-in with your living room” meaning this chassis is being targeted at living room gamers, and the HTPC markets.

What’s most interesting about this is it is compatible with standard off-the-shelf PC components, including [...]

Computex 2014: Zotac’s Sphere Shaped Mini-PC, Fanless Zbox C Series Mini-PCs

As one of the more prominent players in the mini-PC space, Zotac showed off a number of new systems here at Computex, but one of the more interesting systems on display was the Zotac Zbox Sphere OI520, which as its name implies is pretty much a Zbox in a chassis that resembles a sphere. For those who remember the Google Nexus Q, the Zbox Sphere OI520 is literally a splitting image of Google’s now defunct device; however, unlike the ARM A9 powered Nexus Q, Zotac’s Zbox Sphere OI520 packs a serious punch with the Haswell based Intel Core i5-4200U processor and Intel HD 4400 Graphics. The Zbox Sphere OI520 also includes 802.11 AC Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4x USB [...]

Two 2 Bay NAS Review: Synology DiskStation DS213+ and QNAP TS-269 Pro

Two Bay NAS Juggernauts

Nearly a year ago, I reviewed the Synology DiskStation DS212 and at the time I wasn’t very familiar with just how far NAS units have come these days in terms of software and features. Unlike NAS units of the past, NAS units of today are filled to the brim with features and are better considered as servers rather than what their name, Network Attached Storage, implies.

Today, we’ll be reviewing both the Synology DiskStation DS213+ and the QNAP TS-269 Pro 2 bay NAS units. These are small business oriented NAS units, which means they’ll be right at home running web servers and database servers, but they’ll still do the typical NAS [...]
