Help me urgent ! IS THIS GOOD?

Yes, this system should be very good but I don't recommend picking up a GTX 970 anymore now that the GTX 1070 is out and very much available. Unless you're getting an incredible deal, something like the EVGA GTX 1070 SC Gaming will offer significantly better performance than a GTX 970. You may also go with a 650W PSU without any issues if you can get one for a significantly lower cost. The newer Nvidia GTX 10xx series and Radeon RX 4xx series are very power efficient based on new nodes and new architectures.

Well, the Silverstone RVZ01 can support coolers up to 83mm which isn't bad. What I'm worried about is the motherboard. That Maximum Impact VI is just so full of stuff. If you have somewhere with a good return policy, I'd try the Noctua NH-L9I. I've had some good experience with that, but it depends on if your motherboard will work with it. Silverstone also has some good low profile coolers. I think the AR04, AR05, AR06 should fit.

    Philosophical Discussion

So I have a lull here at work and thought I'd pose up a philo-mo-sophical question to my favorite techie crew. Imagine you are given a chance to be strapped into a chair that, once connected, you will enter a realm of eternal paradise. The chair operates by constantly finding new ways to invoke the brain's pleasure sensors and, thus, the paradise will never become dull or boring and will be catered to what your form of paradise would be. Further, the chair will take care of all of your physical needs and ensure that you do not die from starvation or any such physical concerns. To take the hypothetical even further, the chair has a 100% guarantee to never fail and will absolutely never "glitch" and send you into a non paradisical state. On the down side, once you connect to the chair, there is no way to ever return to the real world. All connections with this world will be lost as you are, essentially, opting out of being an active part of the physical world. As you can never disconnect yourself or be disconnected by another, you freely choose the option of the chair. Which do you choose? For me, I would take the chair and here is my reasoning why: Firstly, from a Hindu and Buddhist perspective, entering into a realm of pure pleasure that is detached from this world can be seen, firstly, as Moksha or enlightnment and denounces the Maya or illusion that the world we currently live in even exists. Along this same line of thinking, even if I acknowledge that the world I'm entering isn't a true reality, my brain will eventually come to see it as reality and the fact that my physical self is actually in a chair will not matter any more. The brain's reality is, in essence, more important than the body's reality. Secondly, from a more utilitarian standpoint, removing all suffering and pain from life to live in a world of pleasure, whether fake or not, maximizes the human experience. Some would argue that suffering is required in order to fully appreciate the human experience but I would argue this is the optimist's perspective trying to rationalize the harsh realities of life and turning them into a more positive experience. The idea that human experience is best served with positive and negative occurrences is biased on the fact that we can not truly imagine a reality that does not include negative occurrences. Lastly, from an existential standpoint, if life has no meaning other than the one that we create for ourselves, am I not justified in choosing a reality of blissful paradise rather than the harshness of reality that was experience on a day-to-day basis? Must I be forced to join in the issues of the world if a viable option exists for me to escape said reality? And is it not only my familiarity with the norm that may sway me from this decision if, as the question suggests, I am guaranteed the highest rewards when connected to the chair? So there's your moment of philosophy for the day and my excuse to ramble in text. XD Enjoy!

This is in response to CNN's article on how gaming can lead to bad grades and depression that I did for a school project. I just thought I should share my ideas with the community and bring a new perspective to this issue. The original article can be found here. Dear Editor, While reading your ideas about the effects gaming can have on children I found several inaccuracies that could very easily mislead someone to changing their own or someone they care for's lifestyle. For example, many of the effects of gaming that you consider more detrimental are incorrect. To be more precise, the quote "students who did stop their excessive gaming reduced their levels of depression, anxiety and social phobia," is full of flaws. While someone may get stuck in playing a game which could potentially lead to depression and anxiety, it doesn't because once the player is able to achieve their goal they feel a sense of happiness that is hard to surpass. It is the same feeling as when someone climbs Mount. Everest. They may face hardships and difficulties along the way, but these all subdue when the person accomplishes their goal. The second part of that statement was that social phobia also decreased as a result of participants stopping their normal gaming habits. This statement is commonly made by people who do not understand the huge extent of video games around the world. Most people who play video games are not socially awkward. In fact, most gamers tend to have better friendships as they have a common interest that will always adapt with changing times. Also, with the aid of internet VoIP (Voice over IP) software, gamers will always have a way of staying in touch with old friends compared to most non-gamers. Also, when talking about how children were diagnosed as pathological gaming they were asked "were students becoming more preoccupied with video games, did they lie about the amount of time spent playing, had schoolwork suffered, and if playing helped them escape from problems or bad feelings." These questions should not be used to define a pathological gamer. With a simple manipulation of the words these questions can be used to diagnose anyone as a pathological student. Were students more preoccupied with studying than they were with relationships? Were all kinds of relationships being damaged because of excess studying and competition? As I just demonstrated, these questions are too general to be used to diagnose anyone. The questions completely ignore the positives sides of gaming such as development of precise skills, prioritizing your duties, teamwork, and independence. The author also failed to mention in the article that many professions can benefit from video games such as surgeons who need precise and dextrose hands, or managers who need to be able to manage many different tasks at once and prioritize them. As this letter makes clear, your article is very vague and should not be used as evidence to influence someone's lifestyle choices. Please share your thoughts.

Hey SantiCasas, Looks like a good build to me. No glaring issues. If you have the budget, I'd suggest going with the 960 PRO. The MLC 3D NAND is a lot faster and more durable compared to TLC 3D NAND which is preferred if you're constantly transferring lots of photo and video files, but it's not crucial. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-PRO-Internal-MZ-V6P512BW/dp/B01LXS4TYB/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1498435394&sr=1-1&keywords=960+PRO

Hmm... your build actually has some issues. The Intel Core i7-7700 CPU won't work with the X99 Gaming motherboard. They're on different platforms. You need a Z270 like the Z270 PRIME-A. An easy way to tell if they're compatible is by their sockets. X99 is LGA2011v3 and the Z270 boards are LGA 1151. That should put you under budget. For the power supply, that one is fine. Super Flower makes some good stuff. Why two GTX 1060's? If you're buying a new system, always opt for a single more powerful card vs two. Gives you options down the road, less heat, and scaling isn't always 100% so your actual performance is never actually double what a single can do. Not to mention there's usually some driver issue that screws everything up. I'd only buy a second if it's actually the only option such as with the higher end stuff like a GTX Titan X. As for the cooler, that NH-D15 is great, but considering you're not getting a K series SKU, I'm assuming you're not planning on overclocking. If that's the case, you don't need something that powerful or that expensive. A Hyper 212 EVO will do the job just fine.

    Ryzen CPU Models Leaked?

Looks interesting... and it could be true but it's likely to be fake. That's a lot of SKUs to come out on launch day and it's highly unlikely AMD would do something like this unless most of it is OEM parts. That naming scheme is also kinda ridiculous since it's the same as the graphics which could cause quite a bit of confusion. If you drop the AMD, part in the front, those CPUs can easily get confused with the GPUs.
  23. 1 point
The budget would definitely depend on what games you want to stream. If you get a decent capture card, CPU/RAM/GPU usage should be fairly low even after long hours of streaming. I'd recommend checking out some of our gaming builds for some ideas. You really just need to tack on something like the Elgato Game Capture HD60 card or Avermedia Live Gamer HD which will take the resource usage of encoding 1080p video when streaming. https://www.custompcreview.com/pc-computer-builds/recommended-gaming-pc-builds/ Personally I'd recommend going with a mid-range system or higher. That way you can get smooth gameplay and have something like OBS or Xsplit in the background taking care of the stream without affecting your gameplay.

    Budget AMD build/ suggestions

Looks fine to me. Only suggestion I have is to pick up a cooler since those chips run a bit warm. The Hyper TX3 or Hyper 212 is a great choice. Also gives you some cooling headroom in case you want to overclock the chips a bit. If you need to reduce budget, you can step down to something like a 500W PSU. EVGA's 500 W1 runs under $38. That RX470 is so efficient that you can probably even get away with a 430W PSU TBH but there's not a huge price difference between 500w and 430w.

    First PC Build

What kind of games are you looking to play and at what resolution/quality settings? That will determine if this system could run all the new games. If you're looking to play games at 1080p, low/medium settings, the only thing I'd change is the GPU. The GPU I'd recommend picking up a Radeon RX 460. Same price, but ~30-40% faster. If you want even better performance, I'd step up to a Radeon RX 470. Not too much more expensive, but over 2x faster than that GTX 750 Ti. To make budget room available, you can downgrade the PSU to a 550w and you can drop the CPU cooler. Also, if you don't absolutely need the 1tb of capacity, I'd recommend going with a true SSD. The Crucial BX200 240gb is about the same price as that 1TB SSHD, but it'll be way faster. Hope that helps.

Hey dude looks all good, just a couple things I'd like to share from experience. - your CPU choice, personally not a fan of the 4690k... Considering the new skylake is out id maybe go for that or a 4790k. Not OCing then maybe pass on the K editions to save coin. - motherboard features for me is key, make sure it's got what you want. Down the line I've regretted not having certain bells and whistles like Bluetooth etc. personally I'm a fan of the Asus "deluxe" boards - your SSD isn't the best, look into Samsung SSDs I'm a fan of them and they are one of the faster and more reliable choices. 120GB isn't must, you'll definitely fill that with an OS and a Modded Skyrim easy, try for a 250gb at least. Maybe get the black edition HDD and take out the SSD. - Personally I'd choose a Gigabyte 970gtx g1 over your choice but there isn't much difference. - I like to make sure my components are safe so I'd get a gold or plat certified PSU

    NEED HELP WITH CUSTOM BUILD

What @auldgrunt said above. You either need to change that CPU to a HEDT CPU, so i7-5820K, i7-5930K, i7-5960X, etc. or you need to go get a Z97 board and some DDR3 memory. Also, you have both a Sentey and a Corsair case in your cart. You only need one case. I'd pick the Corsair. FYI the H100i will come with thermal compound pre-applied which is actually decent. You'll only need additional if you plan to remove the original.

    NEED HELP WITH CUSTOM BUILD

The 4790K is a DDR3 Processor and your motherboard is DDR4 If you go DDR3 then the MSI Z97 offers 2 way SLI/crossfire. Also if you choose DDR3 have a look at Xeon Processors (providing it's a more editing PC) 4790K is the top of the range DDR3. You would either have to change the board to Z97 or equivalent Or you can upgrade your processor change to the intel DDR4 range i.e. 5820K The x99 boards have decent audio to start with but if you feel you need the separate card then go for it! I am doing a similar build but DDR3. I'm opting for the HX series supply over the CX as it's more efficient and has additional connectors. Cost swung me to DDR3 as RAM, Processor & motherboards are far more expensive. Maybe next time though!

    Building new custom pc

Looks great to me. Only thing which is personal for me is I like the MSI GTX 970 Gaming better. Quieter since it uses two larger fans but more importantly it'll match the blue/black color scheme of the motherboard. Looks like you were trying to do that with the memory as well.

    i7 Build

Hmmm... Not much I'd change. Build looks great to me. For the cooler, I'd say the Hyper 212 EVO is a good choice. It's cheap. It performs well. You can also get an AIO water cooling unit, but it costs a lot more for slightly better performance depending on the model. As for the OS, the difference between Home Premium and Professional is that professional is more designed for users on an active domain environment. Probably don't need it for a home gaming system. It's also needed if you're planning on getting more than 16GB of memory. Looks like you're only putting 16GB in there so you're good. That said, if you do decide to go 32GB, it's a simple one click upgrade to Professional, so I'd probably get Home Premium since it's cheaper.
  36. 1 point
Hi jvlapple, You're probably good getting 2 Sticks of 4 GB RAM right now and upgrading to 4 sticks later because 16 GB is more than enough RAM. \ As for the SSD, honestly I have to agree with Sam here. Transcend is not the best and Samsung currently is one of the best if not the best on the market right now. Its worth the extra money. You can find cheap HDD's too so that shouldn't be much of a problem. Also you may need a disk drive to install Windows unless you're getting the USB install version. Lastly, the stock processor fan may not be good enough considering the case is so small. But I may be wrong.
  37. 1 point
Thanks for the input. Well, I was only using single slot 8gb because i was planning to upgrade later on by adding another 8gb ram. But i am not pretty sure whether 16gb ram will be worth it because ive read somewhere stated that his pc hardly get 8gb ram usage while he has almost the same build as i will. If not then i will gor for 4gbx2. About the SSD, I am choosing the transcend because it's cheaper than most of the SSD in our country. The SSD that you recommended which is Samsung 850 EVO are expensive here. 128gb would cost approx 84$ (if converted from malaysia currency to USD). While the Transcend 128gb would only cost approx 58$. So thats why.. About the hdd, i will look up for it. I do not need the use of disk drive. If anything need for example installation from cd or dvd, i will just make an .ISO using my laptop and run it virtually on the desktop. Also, do you think that the stock processor fan will sufficient to get the processor working in low temp under heavy load? Or should I get better cooling system for it. Im never going to OC my processor althought i'm choose the MAXIMUS VI IMPACT mobo its mainly because it has a nice soundcard build in. I am not the type of person who like to run games at crazy setting like ultra or 4k res. 1080p is more than enough for me. Thanks,

I tried to replicate Sam's build as closely as possible with more recent hardware. I did change some things around, though. You can switch out the 4770K for a 1230v3 if you don't plan to overclock. You can also go for a much cheaper cooler if you plan to go with the 1230v3. The PSU is total overkill for the 750 Ti but for future video card upgrades it will be easier to start out with a higher wattage PSU. I didn't go with a board with any fancy onboard audio solutions because you have enough headroom for a DAC or a sound card (or maybe even both) which are far better solutions than any onboard solution can provide.

    Gaming PC build: ~$1000+

Ok here are the differences between the UD5H and the D3H. I/O on the UD5H - 6 audio jacks - 2 Intel NICs - 2 HDMI - 1 Displayport (Btw, video ports on the mobo won't really matter b/c you are buying a discrete GPU anyways) I/O on the D3H - VGA - 5 audio jacks + optical - 1 HDMI And here are the main differences inside the mobo that I have graciously circled and labeled for you. UD5H: D3H: 1. The UD5H has 2 Intel Ethernet ports while the D3H only has 1. (you most likely won't need 2 ethernet ports) 2. The UD5H has 16 phases while the D3H has 8. (phases are for overclocking; they provide more power to the CPU) 3. The UD5H has a BIOS switch plus a built-in power/reset button while the D3H does not. (For overclocking purposes, if the BIOS becomes corrupt you can switch the BIOS or have different BIOS versions on each switch. The D3H has an automatic backup BIOS but you cannot choose which one the motherboard can use) 4. The UD5H has voltage read out points where you can connect an external voltage monitor for overclocking. (Again, for overclocking. People want to be extremely accurate with their voltages) 5. The UD5H has an LED post # display while the D3H does not. (For POST problems when you are building your computer for the first time. It's not necessary, but it makes troubleshooting slightly easier) 6. The UD5H has an additional 4 SATA ports (Marvell) while the D3H has only the 6 base Intel ports. (won't matter to you unless you want to run 10 drives) 7. The UD5H provides internal 1394a ports (firewire) while the D3H does not. Also, 2 more things. The UD5H has 5 system fan headers while the UD3H only has 3. The UD5H uses Realtek ALC898 codec while the D3H uses the ALC892 codec. About the CPU, I forgot to mention the reason why the 1230 V3 is much cheaper. The 1230V3 does not include Intel HD onboard graphics. CPUs are basically made equal in terms of quality, so no need to worry about that. I have the Evo but from other people's advice, buy the Plus instead. Performance is nearly identical between the 2 but the fan on the Plus (Blademaster) are quieter than the ones on the Evo. Hope this helps and don't be afraid to ask questions!
