Nvidia Logo

It was previously believed that Nvidia would be producing their GPUs on TSMC’s 16nm FinFET exclusively, but a new report from Korean business website Chosun Biz confirms that Samsung and Nvidia recently concluded talks to manufacture Nvidia’s “Pascal” architecture GPUs on Samsung’s 14nm FinFET process as well. Samsung is already testing the new GPUs on their production lines at the Giheung manufacturing plant and production of the new GPUs are expected before the end of the year.

This is good news for Nvidia. As a fabless semiconductor company, it’s crucially important to diversify production across multiple fabs ensuring that supply issues at one production plant can be mitigated by another fab.
