Nvidia recently reported their earnings for Q2 FY2017 and once again smashed it out of the ballpark, beating their own estimates from 1Q FY2017.
According to both GAAP and non-GAAP revenues, Nvidia made a whopping $1.43 billion in Q2 FY17 which is up 9% from last quarter, and up 24% from Q2 FY2016. This is also a cool $80 million higher than Nvidia’s Q1 estimate of $1.35 billion. Furthermore, GAAP earnings per share is $0.40, up 21% from the previous quarter and up a massive 700% from Q2 FY2016. Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $0.53, up 15% from the previous quarter and up 51% from Q2 FY2016.

Nvidia’s largest chunk of revenue still comes from their Gaming division which generated $781 million for the company, up 18% from Q2 FY16 and 13% from last quarter. This is due to strong demand for Nvidia’s new Pascal architecture based GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080 GPUs launched over the summer. Nvidia also currently holds the performance crown with the recently launched Titan X graphics card and isn’t expected to surrender it anytime soon.
The Professional Visualization, aka workstation/business, division brought in $214 million, up 21% from Q2 FY16 and up 13% from last quarter. This is attributed in large part to the launch of the new Pascal based Quadro P5000 and Quadro P6000 professional graphics cards. Improving revenues should continue with the launch of additional Pascal based graphics cards over the next quarter.
Datacenter is continuing its rapid growth thanks to Nvidia’s heavy investment into deep learning. In Q2 FY17, datacenter generated $151 million, up 109% from Q2 FY16 and up 5% from last quarter.
Automotive is also continuing its rapid growth as well with Q2 FY17 generating $119 million, up 68% from Q2 FY16 and up 5% from last quarter.
Overall Nvidia had a stellar 2Q and is estimating $1.68 billion in revenues in 3Q 2017. With any luck, FY17 may be one of Nvidia’s best years ever. Will they pull it off? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
