Hello. My name is Martin and I'm seaching for some assistance. It's about overclocking an AMD x2 240 processor to about 3.0-3.2GHZ (Stock: 2.8Ghz)

The problem is that I tried ocing it via Bios / OCTuner, but windows crashes.

Bios: windows eighter loads and crashes with an error box or simply blue screens and restarts)

OCtuner: About 30 seconds of succes then Windows freezes for 1-2 seconds then it bluescreens, followed by a restart.

//*NOTE*// This is just a MAC theme for Windows.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Basic 120mm fan.

    400w PSU.

System takes ~350w on full load. // What friends told me

250-310w 80% Load. // What friends told me. and PSU Calculator.

I don't really think, that it's the PSU's problem since I had an even lower consumation Graphics card, when I first tried to Overclock the CPU.

    First overclock attempt: 2.9GHz - Freeze, Crash. Cool'n''Quiet disabled ; Bus FQ - 205-6 -- FAILED.

Second Overclock attempt: 3.0Ghz - Freeze, Crash Cool'n'Quiet diasbled ; Bus FQ - 215, PCI FQ: Do not remember.

    CPU Temps:

    45c - Not doing anything

    50c - 80% usage

49-51c Mostly in some game like Battlefield 3.

Voltage: 1.375v NOT touched since I bought the CPU.

    Multiplier: 14x (Locked)

I did research about some tips, help, stuff but no answers.

People say that the CPU can be overclocked at 3.4GHz stable 3.6Ghz (depends on the system)

    - I'm probbably making a mistake. What is the error, that I'm doing?

Sounds like what you need to do is crank up the voltage. Unfortunately, it looks like this might be the maximum speed your processor will run without a voltage bump.

Did you try the settings from here? Crank up the voltage to 1.4, 1.5 or 1.6v and trying 3.0-3.4GHz?

    Tests:

1.4v - PC starts. Loads half stuff, crash bluescreen.

1.425 - Bios, settings start. PC Freezes after loading. Doesn't load to desktop.

1.45 - Didn't try due to afraid of burning something.

What frequency are you trying to overclock it to at 1.45v?

Also, make sure your memory timings are either set at default or the rated speed/timings. Have you tried running a memtest to make sure your memory is working right? Sometimes that ends up being the problem.

What about 205MHz and 210MHz? Does it boot?

Also, from that CPU-Z screen it looks like your bios is years out of date. Get that updated! Typically an out of date or bad bios is what breaks 90% of overclocks.

Will that hurt my system? I mean it tells me to update ONLY if I have problems with my system.

Nope, it shouldn't. As long as you do it properly it'll be ok. Just don't be stupid and pull the power from the wall while the bios is updating....

Apperantly the BIOS update did help. Successful Overclock to 3000MHz (3.0GHz).

PCI not touched, Voltage not touched.

Thank you for the assistance. will try to OC it to 3.2GHz and report back.

Incrasing by 400MHz (2.8 to 3.2) should I touch the Voltage now?

Good to hear! Voltage adjustments will be up to you. What's the voltage looking like right now?
