Rumored AMD Zen Chipset Issue May Increase Cost for Motherboard Manufacturers

According to a recent article published by Digitimes, motherboard makers may be facing increased costs due to an issue in AMD’s upcoming motherboard chipset. Citing industry sources, Digitimes claims that the issue stems from a design flaw in the ASMedia USB 3.1 chip included in the chipset, which causes “…USB 3.1 transmission speeds drop dramatically as circuit distance increases”. As such, board makers are forced to add additional retimer, redriver, or additional USB 3.1 chips in order to make USB 3.1 function properly on the upcoming motherboards. ASMedia has denied such allegations citing that their [...]

During our stay at Computex we stopped by the Gigabyte suite and took a look at their motherboards.

GA-X99 Designare EX

The Designare series is a class of motherboards aimed at those looking for productivity, which is a very interesting step from Gigabyte. Colorful Packs a Full GTX 1070 on to an Intel Skylake Compatible Motherboard

At this year’s Computex, Colorful a company known for making graphics cards, had a very interesting concept on display. This custom motherboard featuring Intel’s B150 chipset also features an integrated GTX 1070 desktop-class GPU on-board.

Colorful Displays B150-Gp104 Motherboard Concept

The motherboard itself does not seem to to comply with any ATX standards, as it features ports on both the front and rear edges of the board. This means that it is likely custom-designed for a console-like barebones PC of sorts. It features an Intel B150 chipset, which is compatible with mainstream desktop Skylake CPUs. As this is a B150 motherboard, it does feature a [...]
